I purchase a Nuvi 660 in used codition off of ebay. It has worked flawlessly for the past 1 1/2 years! I purchased the update of it last night, and now it's stuck in demo mode! I called Garmin, and they said that, that particular unit is/was a demo and wouldn't except updates. But how do I get it back to original state? Garmin says it can't be done, but they just want more money..... can anyone help me?
Thank you. My husband figured it out. Garmin actually told me it a demo unit and I needed to return it..... but it had worked fine up to the point of updating it. It's all good now! The update even worked! And yes, he had to delete the "Demo" folder, and there were a few other things he did... he's the computer wizard in our family... so thanks for all your help! Merry Christmas!

If you can plug the c550 into your computer and pull it up as a drive, you should see a "Demo" folder. Delete this folder, and it MAY fix your unit. If your computer will not see the unit, you will need to send it in for repair. FYI, I am an employee at Garmin, and we always go out of our way to help in any way we can without sending it in for repair. Garmin gives us more latitude to help the customer than any other company I've ever worked for. We don't do anything "just for more money" We don't work on commission, we get nothing out of making the customer pay for a repair.

Yes! The GTM-20 is a charger with a built-in traffic receiver. The charger plugs into the cradle for the Nuvi 660 and then the Nuvi 660 snaps into the cradle.
However to receive traffic with the GTM-20, you will need to purchase a subscription, either yearly or lifetime. The traffic receiver receives traffic information from FM radio broadcast stations, which broadcast traffic data.
Press the wrench at the main menu, then the Gear (system) icon. Then look for the option that says SIMULATOR. Make sure that function says OFF. With it ON, you can Simulate a driving route but your GPS will not be working in real time mode.
You can update the software using the webupdater program available on http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp. If you are looking to update the maps they need to be purchased and are tied to the unit serial number. A dvd can be purchased at Target , Wal-Mart, or Best Buy.
Sorry but that is a security feature. There is a chance you've purchased a stolen unit from ebay. Unfortunately, only Garmin can unlock it and they will require a receipt from a Garmin dealer.
To charge a nuvi, use one of the following methods:
Connect the nuvi to the suction cup mount and the vehicle power cable.
Connect the USB cable to the nuvi and the computer. The computer will charge the nuvi as long as the computer is on. However, the unit will be in Mass Storage Mode and normal operation is not possible.
Connect the AC power cable and the nuvi to a wall outlet.
Please note: All of the nuvi series will come with a suction cup mount and vehicle power cable to charge the nuvi. However, only some of the nuvi models will come with an AC power cable and/or USB cable. If they did not come with the nuvi, they would be optional cables and would be a separate purchase. Garmin only recommends using an AC power charge that is purchased from Garmin. Third party power cables may not charge the nuvi. These cables may be purchased from Garmin or Garmin's dealers.
No, you do not require an additional SD card for your unit in order for it to operate. Also, you can purchase ANY SD card and it will work with additional maps and POIs. They are upselling you.
It doesn't sound like you're buying from a reputable Garmin dealer. Make sure they're a Garmin dealer in case you have any problems.
