Thank you I will ofcourse do as you say but I thought if I used a HMDI LEAD I did not require the coloured leads at least that's the way I understood it.
How many leads do I require and what are they called

Recording to the VHS Recorder is the same as to the DVD Recorder.

Yes, I know how some manuals can actually confuse more than explain details...

However, it would be near impossible to explain all details here. The simplest solution would be to just go back to the store and have the sales person explain to you how it works, connections, etc. Thats the honest truth..

Does this connection output all formats? ie VHS, DVD & HDD? and allow upscaling? or does the VHS have to output via the SCART?

I have a recorder that whenever i put in video cassettes stops playing after a few seconds and turns the unit off. Can anyone help. Thanks

sounds like belts and rollers and any sensors you see need to be cleaned - it sounds like the unit thinks tape is at end and is shutting down

use qtip and rubbing alcohol to clean

try using different tape just to make sure it is not just a bad tape

Is third time a charm. Again several years ago I

Here is the owner's manual for your DVD machine. This is a VHS recorder but not a DVD recorder. To record VHS tapes to DVDs, you will need a DVD recorder.
You will plug the yellow video out connector on the VHS to the yellow 'Video in' connector on the DVD Recorder. Do the same for the red and white audio connections, out on the VHS, IN on the DVD Recorder. Connect your TV to the DVD recorder so you can see the picture you are recording.

Similar problem as you helped me solve before.

OK, I think I see the problem there.
The aerial lead from the DVDR to TV should be removed.
You should have it setup the same as the other Freeview - VCR - TV
Nutshell time:
Main aerial to Freeview input.
Loop aerial from freeview output to DVDR areial input (all this does is allow you to watch freeview, or standard both out of the DVDR)
So..
Scart from Freeview to DVDR input
Scart from DVDR output to TV
Set DVDR to AV input mode.
Set TV to AV (whatever number you need for that..you now won't get anything on screen unless you have the right input selected)

If you can now see the Freeview picture on the TV and change the channels with the Freeview remote then you should be set for recording.

Having the aerial and a scart lead both going to the TV is not needed.
