I wasn't blaming you for anything, just pointing out that human presence opens up a zillion failure modes that aren't there when something just up and fails.

The replaced part is also suspect now. You COULD just call it quits on this unit or continue to diagnose the problem. We still don't know if the breakdown is in the preamp side or the amp side and there is not a lot of flexibility in this product to separate the two.

That it is so predictable is actually a big plus. You could try various sources and bypass anything you can to reduce the potential failing circuitry. The cleanest test will always be its own FM.

OTOH, a unit that old has lived a long life. Maybe its time.

Hopw do I open a CD Drawer that is jammed without damaging it.

There is a small pin like rod usually provided whenever you buy these things. A small hole just under the cd tray where you insert this pin and it will open the cd tray. If you don't have it try a paperclip. Hope it works, goodluck!

CD is stuck in my bose lifestyle system, the message displays as "opening" but does not open

Not familiar with this model but all cd tray's have a manual release mechanism, its usually a small hole on the front of the tray. I've found a paper clip unwound usually works fine. Push it in the small hole, you will feel it stop against something, push a little harder and the tray should open enough for you to manually pull it open.

We have the RCA RS2767i Home Stereo with 5-disc changer and ipod dock. The CD Tray won't eject or shuffle...everything else works fine. It seems the disc tray isn't responding to anything. We read in the...

Let me respond with a possible solution although I'd bet that both of you already tried these.

The reason I checked into this is because I'm looking for a new mini system. I happen to be at Target and they only had 2 models - this one and a SONY. I certainly didn't want to buy the RCA given these problems, so I asked the salesperson, who seemed to have some knowlege.

As far as opening the tray on top, there is a button to push right under the tray. The button has an icon of a triangle on it. This seems to be somewhat of a standard icon for opening the tray or ejecting a CD (my car's CD has the same icon for ejecting a CD).

As far as only being able to get 3 CD's out, there is another button under the tray marked "disc skip". This rotates the tray. When you open the tray, you can only get to 3 of the CD's. When you push disk skip, it rotates the tray one position, so you can get the 4th one out. Another push and now you can get the 5th one.

Sometimes my CD changer doesn't shuffle the disks. If I only have 1 CD or DVD in it and push the tray open button, the disk stays in the unit and the tray revolves to an intermediate position. I push the button to put the tray back and try disc skip; that usually works.

If your problems are not solved per above, then I definitely do NOT want to get this.

RE JVC music centre, model AL E58BK (1993): CD tray will no longer open. JVC no longer have spares for this model.

More than likely, the loading belt has gotten slippery and needs to be replaced. If that his the case, there are generic belt suppliers where the belt can be purchased. Any service shop that works on audio gear should be able to resolve this. The belt will be in the $3-$5 range. Add in the local labor rate for the total repair cost.

Jammed CD tray system

You may have a disk that fell out of tray onto lower mechanism. Be careful when disassembling mechanism as they have timing gears that are positioned to perform certain functions

The CD loading mechanism needs to be rebuilt. Hopefully when you pulled out the trays, nothing was broken inside. Assuming it only needs to be retimed, you can expect to pay the local labor rate. If you broke any of the gears, the parts souldn't exceed $15 or so. Most of the gears and parts are rugged. Look for a Panasonic authorized service center for the repair.
