I have had the machine put away a long time . All I want to do is send not recieve. The cover will not stay closed. I can hold it closed. Does the green button on my right side help me... or can I get the handy silver tape to keep it closed. "Please wait " appears when I hold it shut, and it "Hums".. Thanks Renee

Most probably your door lock is damaged. You are not supposed to force it open, you have to wait for at least 2 minutes (or till the lock sign is off) after the wash is over to open the door, never force it. You can just google your model number and search for parts to obtain it. It is quite possible you can change it yourself. See that the line is disconnected from the mains.
Open the front cover by pulling it towards you (that is the cover where are the digits and other function keys), see if any paper has inside and than close the front cover and press the " Stop " button. Remember if you do not close the front cover good the message will still appear on the screen because the machine thinks that the cover is not closed. That happen because of the sensor on the front cover which detects do the front cover is closed so check dose the door is good closed. If your machine do not pull the documents in the " document feeder " than open the front cover and you will see pair of rubbers inside, clean them with alcohol or glass cleaner and clean peace of cloth.
I had the same issue, turning off didn't solve it. There's a plastic flap the width of the print tray just inside that I flipped up and it solved this problem. It is directly in front of the ink tanks. I'm assuming we flipped it down and forgot about it. It seems it needs to stay up, although you wouldn't notice it when it flips down when you close the top, as it closes just fine with it down. It's easy to overlook. This took me a few hours to realize.
The top of the flap has a half circle cut out of it in the middle.
