Re: Backlight on the screen not working
Hi. The lights for the keypad are separate from the backlight for the LCD screen. The backlight for the LCD screen is actually in the screen itself so you need a new one. We sell them here http://www.formymobile.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=n95lcd

On candybar style push-button phone units, this indicates non-working or failed LED backlights. Some phone models will have an option to turn off the backlight for both screen and keypad. This will normally be in the Settings Menu of your unit, and sometimes found in the user manual. Hope this helps.

I have managed to fix the problem by doing a software update.
I stumbled across the solution..........I had the phone connected to the computer when I started it in the 'boot loader' screen as opposed to just turning it on. This time the computer recognised the phone was connected and through the motorola software update program I was able to update the software and the phone now works fine.
BTW I did lose all my address book, messages etc.
To start in the boot loader screen hold down the * + # + pwr keys all at once.
The Motorola V3m has a light sensor, which is visible just above the right soft key -- the key above the CLR button. This light sensor turns the backlight on when you press a key in the dark and disables the keypad backlight when you are in a well-lit area.
Your phone sounds like it's operating normally. I believe they disabled the option to activate or deactivate that feature.
