It seems that everything works fine on the camera. However, when I watch the video on my tv, using a vhs tape that I insert the vhs-c into, I have no sound while viewing.

Typical CCD sensor problem ...replace CCD block. This is normally due to a faulty component being installed so even if your camera is out of warranty try to have it done free of charge.

My canon camera seems to work fine in record mode. The LCD shows the video and the timestamp, and tape is moving. Yet in playback mode no matter what Tape I use (even if I know the tape has video on it)...

The playback head is dirty. Insert a brand new tape into the drive and perform a record, through the entire tape until it reaches the end. Then play a pre-recorded tape.

When I playback what I have recorded via camcorder or through tv it is so snowy you can not watch it through a video player it is perfect

Have you tried cleaning the camcorder heads?

Try putting vhs-c cleaner in your local ebay..... such as (in UK) ....

Particles from the tape get lodged on the head over time. Its not special to VHS-c - its common to all tape products. Usually a good clean (say 3 - 4 times initially, plus one clean every 20 hours use, or so) prevents the accumulation of residue.

Line on playback of vhs c tapes

You should play them through a different machine. Your video heads are dirty. You can get a head cleaned and this will work. It is probably not your tapes if they were kept clean.I hope this helps.

Tapes won't Playback in other deivice

Hello! If the recorded tapes playback ok on the camera and not ok on another devices, you need to readjust the playback on this camera using a tape which playbacks fine on the other devices. This means that is a small difference on the tape transport. So when the supply and takeup post rollers readjusted and the audio and video playback are good, then your camera is fine.

Playback *stops* on tapes where I used Aux input to record

It could be that.. you generally want a timebase corrector to properly record from analog tape to some other medium. But maybe not. Most tape-based devices also include a tension sensor, to detect the end-of-tape. If you're using tapes that are too old, cheap, etc. it could be that you're seeing this triggered.

I recommend trying the same VHS recording with a good quality, fresh tape. If it's still kicking off, you at least know it's due to the camcorder having issues with sync or something on the tape. If it works, blame the old tapes.

It's probably camcorder dependent, but I have done tape restorations using Digital8 and DV equipment, and have never known a camcorder to cut itself off due to dropouts or other problems on the tape -- mine just play through. So I think it's at least possible that it's just the tape.

Problems with Playback and No Sound..

It seems you are having a tracking problem. When the tracking is out of sync, you will notice digitized drop out then even audio distorts. It is caused possibly by shift in mechanical system or changed value of electronic components in tracking circuit. It is standard repair cost to remedy this kind of problem. Probably cost you around $125-200 in US repair shops.

Can an adaptor be used to play my 8mm tape in my VHS VCR?

With the Sharp Viewcam ®, there's no need to use an adaptor to play 8 mm tape. Simply connect the Viewcam ® to the TV or VCR for playback. You can even use your VCR to make a copy onto VHS tape.

Jvc 200u problem recording to vhs video tape, from camcorder

Yes, if the camera is a US camera then it is NTSC. That would be your problem, you are trying to record an NTSC signal to a PAL video. THe frame rates and resolutions are all wrong. I am even surprised that it is playing back on your TV okay...

Noise block doring playback of D-VHS tapes

* Do not record program in DVHS mode on an S-VHS cassette. Use of S-VHS cassettes will not allow for maximum performance and may result in head clogging. Use only D-VHS cassettes as recommended in the instruction manual on page 27. * Make sure that the DIGITAL 3-DNR lamp is ON when playing back a cassette recorded in D-VHS mode. If not press DIGITAL 3-DNR so that the DIGITAL 3-DNR indicator illuminates. * When block noise appears on the TV screen, clean the video heads with the DFC-2 D-VHS Head Cleaning Cassette (continue up to 3 minutes total). Please refrain from using any other head cleaning cassettes as drum damage may result.
