I am trying to upgrade to a 1tb SATA HDD on my Dell Optiplex GX270. It does not recognise my new drive in my BIOS, I have updated BIOS to A07. Am I missing something? Is it compatable with SATA?

I have the same model PC with a 250gig Sata HDD and dont have any problems. If a PC can read 250g it should be able to read 1000g. This may sound silly but is Sata turned on in Bios

I have a Dell GX270 SFF - after plugging power cord in wall, the indicater light on front panel turns amber. The unit will not boot up unless I hold the power switch in, and wait for the light to go out....

You might check on the CMOS for your unit. Make sure you have the latest version... it sounds like your computer is starting up in sleep mode by what you have stated. This can be adjusted in the CMOS area for power savings. The issue might also be in Windows itself too if the computer boots far enough along when it turns ogange, as Win XP has some power savings features that can corrupt in the Registry. My first thought is the CMOS though. Yours might be adjusted incorrectly or might even be corrupted (there were some viruses about 3 years ago that would scramble the CMOS on various Dell machines that I know for sure was the 260 and 280s.. yours being a 270, makes me suspicious of this possibility. To be sure, I would flash it to the newest version anyway just to be safe. Dell.com under support is where it is at.. you are wanting the BIOS update.. (dell calls it BIOS). The newest version is "A07" from July of '06. I am not sure if this will work, but here is the link to Dell BIOS A07:

Intel D865GBF, having sound-max, is not giving signal to speakers. While using sound-max wizard mic input signals are shown, but there comes no sound in speakers while testing it...

Goto the your Start button, control settings, sound, click advanced, make sure your mic is not muted, and the proper input is selected(usb, or however you mic is connected.) Make sure you get levels here when talking or tapping the mic lightly. Sound max should work if this is set correctly.
