Jumping screen on sylvania 6240ve

When I record a tv show and replay it, the image jumps like there is not a horizontal control. I use new tapes and clean the vcr heads regularly. There is no tracking knob. How do I get a non-jumping image.

Press the Channel up & down buttons at the same time and on most VCRs this deactivates auto tracking option. then press the up or down channel button to adjust tracking. You might try this first. pressing them both at same time reactvates auto tracking. This might not solve the problem but at least you eliminated one possibility.

SONY keeps switching to EP at beginning of playing SP tapes

You may have dirty heads in the vcr---most 4 head machines use two for sp and the other two for lp and or ep.

Tape residue will usually be seen on the drum where the heads are when this happens--also look for the black residue on the tape guides that hold the tape in position against the drum-------

Issue I believe with the Horizontal Synch

Hi this problem sounds like the tape was damaged somehow maybe faulty when you brought it because if you had no problems using a different tape then that rules out the head been damaged inside the video so i would say the tape was faulty.
Also you are right they dont make videos anymore and eventually wont be able to buy blank tapes the best format that you should invest in is a camcorder that takes memory cards these can hold alot more than the tapes can and the quality is 100 times better and less likely to fail on you also you can store everything on your computer and then transfer to dvd.
Let me know if this answered you question or if you need further assistance ok

Is there a tracking system on this VCR? We have several tapes that are jumping or skipping. Sylvania 6240VD

All VCR's have tracking, it's not however clearly marked on the remotes often. Some use the up-down channel channel selector or other keys, while some have it on a menu somewhere.
It's also worth cleaning the heads sometimes with Servisol Video 40. Just take the top cover off and spray both the big video head and the smaller heads. Let it dry up before trying a tape.

My jvc vcr is plugged into my new mitsubishi DLP tv and the image is jumping up and down a bit. It also seems to skip a few frames, why is that?

You might try to clean the heads, You can buy some acetone at any walmart, Kmart ect…Use a foam swab to clean the heads on the chrome cylinder that spins. (Do not use cotton swabs, it will get caught in the heads.) It has 4 small windows on the cylinder that are the record and play back heads. Do not use a lot of acetone at one time, just a bit. Let it dry for 5 to 10 min’s. Then try to record and play back something. Sometimes it takes more than one cleaning. But.. Always let it dry good before putting in a tape or it will clog the heads worst. I have found that cleaning tapes only work if the heads are not very dirty. A manual cleaning is the best. Radio shack may carry the foam swabs. I’m not sure but electronic supplies do. Hope this is helpful.

I have a Sylvania 6240VE vcr. When I try to rewind a recorded tape, the vcr ejects the video. I was wanting to purchase a dvd/vcr combo, but the reviews for these items are awful. I tried a Magnavox combo....

When you put the player into rewind, is it at the beginning of the tape that it ejects? If so, it may be because you have the machine in timer mode. If you have a pre-recorded tape in a VCR, it will automatically eject the tape because you`ve not to record on a pre-recorded tape. I hope this help, Ian

Picture bounces up and down

All new VCR's are auto tracking however, you should be able to manually track it using your remote, or there are a few reasons that the auto track can fail, the tape may have worn or ragged edges which means that the control head cannot get a clean reading, the control head may itself need cleaning or the tape path requires adjustments, adjusting the guides really needs to be done by a technician as a reference tape is used, or that the heads are low and a good video signal cannot be obtained to gain a reference point....Phil
