This TV set is still under the warranty and it seems proton has no local service available to you. I know its to late to tell you this but anytime you purchase a set, ask first and see if there is a service local to you. Ok enough of that noise.. I would go back to the store where it was purchaced and ask them if they know of any local shops that handle the warranty repairs.. If you want to pay for the repair, and that will most likly be alot for a flat panel set, You will have to call back proton and ask about the shipping cost and whos responsible for that.

I had a similar problem where my 61" Samsung DLP was turning itself off very frequently I had resolved to try replacing the bulb. I called a local TV repair place to see if they had my buld in stock. The guy I spoke to actually told me how to fix my problem! There is a little blue switch behind the bulb access door. The inside of the door has a little piece that presses the switch down. The switch is supposed to work correctly weather the switch is in the up or down position but samsung forgot to take expansion from heat into account. If the switch is held in the upper position by the door and the plastic expands to a certain point, it triggers the set to shut off. This does not occur of the switch is held in the lower position. What you need to do is take the access door off and put it back on by sliding it into position from above. That will hold the switch in the down position, eliminating the problem. My set has not **** itself off ever since.

it seems to be a bad connection somewhere but I disconnected the ribbon cable and got a verticle line of snow instead of a blank line. the line is about 34 mm wide and starts 285 mm from the left edge starts on the Blue and goes to the Red pixels. so if they are 1mm wide that would be 34 bands of color.
I would sure like to figure out the solution to this one or I got a TV I need to throw away cause the o'lady is gonna bust my balls if I can't fix this!

Please find above your user and below is your service and repair manual, use this to troubleshoot and hopefully repair your unit.
it is nearly always my professional opinion that one should always get a "Quote" from the manufacturers recommended service center, Toshiba in your case, please contact a local or head office and ask for a referral to an Authorised service center. I cannot stress how important that last point is. It is even worth the cost of shipping. You see an authorised service agent, will have trained staff, trained on their brand, also they have first hand access to parts, original parts. This will actually save you money and ensure you can actually get it back fixed. Of course asking for a "Quote" also gives on the option of repair or replace. Often my clients,do not go through with repair, unless it is moderate, but in some of the more costly jobs they see it, as do i, that a replacement, with a warranty, is a better option. As an aside here, one could then tear the TV down, and sell the Known Good bits. You'd be surprised who needs parts, i myself often must by from third party sources to effect a repair. So money could be recouped, somewhat, and help out someone else.
