La Cie 500 GB Quadra, blue light flashing, clicking sound, not showing up on desktop, tried USB connection as well as FW800 but no joy. Does this mean that the disk is broken? Is there a way of getting at the data? or even just connecting?

Quadra does not appear on desktop   - G5 iMac running Leopard - previously OK - Firefire and USB do not work - when connected by USB cable I get flashing blue light on Quadra but not with Firewire 400.  Previously OK but just stopped working.

Hard drive powers up, makes a clicking noise, won't mount to desktop, and has crazy-flashing blue light. What are my chances of data recovery?

This is most probably a faulty power cable, a common fault on La Cie apparently. Another cable got my disk working fine!

LaCie d2 Quadra 500 GB HD dropped, now makes strange chime/alarm

Modern hard drive motors can easily become seized after an impact. The only DIY solution I am aware of is the use of a heat gun over the back of the drive motor. The build up of heat within the motor is sometimes enough to free it.

If the drive was running the problem may be due to a phenomenon known as "sticktion" where the drive head is actually stuck to the disc surface. If this is true then you need a data recovery company.

Drive not showing up on my desktop

i'm not sure i can solve this problem--which started for me tonight as well with my lacie d2 quadra 500 gb--but i can share a possible explanation i've found online: apparently, they have lots of problems with their power supplies. see if the power adapter (the black brick) is making a hissing sound, or if there is a ticking sound coming from the drive itself. i have both these sounds. i am hoping all my data is safe and that my i.t dept. will be able to fix it with a new power supply on monday.

How to format the LaCie 500GB d2 Quadra for Windows XP??

This way it should work...
Connect your drive to the computer...
Go to: Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer management.
A new window will appear...
Select Storage > Disk management on the left of the window.
Now you will see the different drives that are connected or part of your system.
One of the drives listed there is your LaCie, i think you'll recognize it by name...
Right-click on it, and select 'format'
In the new window, select the new volume label (as you like it), the file system (use NTFS), and set allocation unit size to default.
Make sure 'Perform a quick format' is not checked...

Then click OK. Your drive will be formatted now... Don't interrupt the process

LaCie d2 Quadra drive... not showing up on PC after working on a MAC

You need to make sure the drive is formatted for the PC. The Mac will read and write to a FAT32 partition, but the PC cannot see a Mac formatted drive as you have seen.

The only problem is that there is a 32Gb limit per partition for FAT32 drives.

It's not ideal but it's the best you can do easily.
