I had the same problem after using this product for a month, suddenly it showed the warning of write protection.
I even contacted the sony customer center but to no avail. their answer was of no help at all. so here is what i did to make it work: 1) First install "QuickTime version 7.2" or later (you can download it from torrent if you are unable to register it, i.e. with a crack) 2) Then install "Windows Media Player 11 " (you can download it from torrent if you are unable to validate it, i.e. if WinXP not original) 3) Now install "Media Manager for WALKMAN" (a compatible software provided by the sony company to interact or communicate with the walkman), freely available for you to download at sony's website.
After the installation, connect the walkman to your computer. Now it should easily add or delete data from you walkman using this software or without it as well.

Have you tried resetting the walkman by using a pin or something small into tiny hole to the rleft of the socket on bottom that connects to pc... worth a try...it dosnt say in manual send me yr aaddy and i will send pdf to you
