Black and Decker Auto Pivot Vac #PAV1200W is only for vehicles as this operates off your battery via cig lighter. You have to remove the cig lighter. Also, it will not use A/C outlet even if you have cig socket version in A/C outlet. Did not even vac or have power. I thought that I could use it for inside house and in cars, but it's only for cars. Haven't tried it in my car yet. Thought this would of been good for deep down in couches and stairs, but I guess not. Just saying. It's now off the market I see.

First make sure it's not the wall charger - use a meter or a flashlight bulb to test the 15 or so volts that should be on the contacts when the charger is plugged in but the unit is detached.

The next thing is to remove the filters and see how easily the "fan" spins - use a popsickle stick or something that won't break the plastic fan if you can't get your fingers on it. Tight bearings may indicate clogged with dust (or corrosion) or destroyed. Free bearings likely indicate a switch or battery problem (good motor.)

Leave it in the charger for at least 7 hours and then try and see if it works on a full performance time of roughly 3 minutes.

SOURCE: I have lost the manual

First of all, here is the main Black And Decker ONLINE SUPPORT page for your model:

http://servicenet.blackanddecker.com/Products/Detail/CHV1408

To view the Support Page or the Owner's Manual with Operating Instructions just use your mouse to click on the link, which is the underlined and highlighted text just above. This will open a new web browser page automatically for you and allow you to view the information at the website indicated.

To download a copy of the OWNER'S MANUAL for that model, just look under the DOWNLOADS heading when you get to the support page and click on the red and white icon beside INSTRUCTION MANUAL (Print Doc).

After you click on that icon, it will ask you if you want to open or save the file.
Choose SAVE.

Now Choose a location on your computer where you would like to save the file.
The easiest place is just right on your DESKTOP so it will be easy to find later.
Then click SAVE.

Once the download completes in about 5 seconds,
Click on the OPEN button.

If the document opens then just read it, or print it off if you want, or just leave it on your computer to reference when you need it later.

If the document does not open, then you may need a PDF viewer program like ADOBE READER installed on your computer to read PDF documents.

You can download this free at WWW.ADOBE.COM if necessary.
Click on the DOWNLOAD ADOBE READER button on right side of the ADOBE home page when you get there and then follow the onscreen instructions to install it.

Install the ADOBE READER program then you can come back to your desktop and open the USER'S MANUAL document and view it without a problem.

Please comment back here to this page if you have any questions, have difficulty accessing the links, or just require further general assistance and I will respond as soon as I see it.

Thank you very much and good luck.

Need a replacement battery for chv1210 dustbuster 12v

I do not believe you can get a replacement battery for that specific dustbuster. If this website does not have the replacement parts, they don't exist. Sorry. Black and Decker CHV1210 Type 1 12V Hand Vac Parts

How do I clean filter on black&decker DustBuster pivot 18v

(The below worked with my 9.6v version - I assume the others in the pivot range will be similar).
If you open the lid (where the dust collects) you can twist the inner plastic filter about 30 degrees to unlock it. Then, with a bit of "fiddling" with the fold out part (press the unlock button and rotate the suction part as if you were going to use the unit) then, the plastic internal part and the whole suction bit will come off the motor part. Do this slowly as the inner filter will be full of dust and muck. You can then take the filter out, tap it clean in the bin and then wash and dry it with washing up liquid (gently) and allow to fully dry before putting it all back together again.

Black & Decker 9.6 V Dust Buster --- how do you remove (for replacing) the rechargeable battery.

Response by small6363 was right on target. All the reviews and comments I had read up to this point for my Dustbuster CHV9600 indicated the battery could not be replaced. I am so glad this link was here.I have ordered the part and will follow the other posters' cautions about reassembling the product. I could not be happier as I could not find the model anymore and it is my favorite purple color. Thanks again small6363. You are a life saver.

B&D Dustbuster model CHV1400 TYPE 1 not working (no recharge). Does it pay to replace battery or not? If yes, how do I open it up, and how do I replace battery? Price? Where do I buy it?

Sorry to say but the battery pack is 3/4 the price of a newer dust buster. The other solution is the have some one rebuild it. But I would buy a new one. Don't waste you time.

Do I need to replace the battery as my dustbuster does not seem to have a lot of power and therefore does not pick up as it used to?

Yes the battery is most probably the problem. you can check is the voltage of the fully charge battery is same as what is stated on it, if not you definitely need a new battery

What is the "wheel" on the side of the dustbuster for? what position should it be in?

The wheel is the pivot and cover for the filters. It opens up to show the filters behind for cleaning.
