Question about Heating & Cooling

Furnace Blower stops working after 15 minutes

We have a WeatherKing GU-80G-D3 unit. When the unit turns on, everything works fine for about 15 minutes and then the airflow stops throughout the house. This is true for A/C and for heating. Started doing this in September with A/C and we haven't needed heat until recently.

When the unit does start up, I can hear a humming that lasts a long time before the air starts blowing. It sounds like the blower fan is having a hard time getting started. I am assuming our blower fan is having a problem but wondering if replacement is necessary or taking the blower out and cleaning it would solve.

Any help would be appreciated.

Replace the blower motor. Cleaning of the blower and motor will help in the moving of more air but will NOT eliminate the real problem in the motor bearings. Over time the lubrication will dry out and bearing wear results.

Ever limit switch i changed in my Weatherking furnace, it breaks the switch, what could cause this?

You need the model number of the furnace to determine what the flashing light is telling you. Many times the part that looks to be at fault is not the true fault in the furnace. A slow running blower could cause the limit switch to trip. The circuit board tells you that the limit tripped, but the real cause is the motor or clogged filter.

Does your outside unit run. Does the inside unt try to run. If not you may have control problem. Check voltage on transformer. It should be 24 volts. Rus

Weatherking furnace is starting and stopping

This just sounds like a couple of problems. First, your blower is designed to only turn on once the heat exchanger heats up, so the flame will be on for a minute or two before the blower starts. it sounds like your blower is cooling down the heat exchanger too fast and causing it to shut off so it can warm up again...check blower speed for heat, it should be the lowest speed (black wire). Blue=medium speed, red= high speed. second problem could be your flame sensor rod is calcified, you just need to locate this and clean it off with some fine sand paper.it is located in the flames near the burners. Also change your filters, for proper air flow through your heat exchanger.

  1. The sensor that tells the furnace whether the gas is lit has got build-up on it and is giving the furnace bad information.
  2. The flame sensor is often a single wire or rod that sticks up in the center of the flame.
  3. You can shut off the furnace and the gas and clean the sensor with some sandpaper.
If that still doesn't work, the sensor may need to be replaced.

Please rate this solution.

My furnace works intermittently.

You may have a dirty flame sensor. There are a number of other possible causes as well. Rheem/Ruud/Weatherking furnaces also have problems with the connection on the blower deck.
The flame sensor sometimes must be bypassed around the MOLEX CONNECTOR in the deck due to humidity.
Hope this helps.
