Apple Tv wont boot up and wont factory restore

Ok here goes...
After following the Apple support web page about connecting an Atv to my Mac via Ethernet it broke. It boots up to the choose language screen and then the restart menu. If I restart it eventually goes back to the language selection screen. Diagnostics say the Atv is working correctly. It wont let me do a factory restore though, it tries and fails.
Any suggestions?

I would check the hdd is OK and not full of errors. When you press F8 just before boot can you select restore? If you can the restore partition is OK and it will restore itself to factory condition. If you can't, re run your restore discs or use an OS disc and install drivers when you get online.

Is this an external hard drive connected via USB? Your USB port may not have enough power - try a different USB port to see if that works..

[1] You can restore an Apple TV (1st generation)'s software from the main menu by selecting Settings > General >Reset Settings > Factory Restore.
If you are unable to reach the settings menu, try the following [2]:
  • Press and hold both Menu and down (-) on the Apple Remote for 6 seconds or until the status light blinks amber.
  • The Apple TV should Reset itself and show you a screen where you can select one of the following: Restart ,Run Diagnostics o rFactory Restore. Select Restart.

I just purchased an iomega ego /500gb and I'm having a problem formatting it by following their instructions. I just want to be able to plug it in and save my music. My mac doesn't even recognize it once...

You will need to format the drive to work with you Mac.
    1. Open Disk Utility
    2. Select Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
    3. In the left hand column, click on the drive icon for the Iomega Hard Drive. Make sure you click on the high level icon, not the second level volume icon.
NOTE: For devices with 2 or more hard drives, please review the configuration settings to determine which volume type works best for you.
    4. Select the Partition tab.
    5. Change Volume Scheme from Current to 1 Partition.
    6. Select the format type from the Format drop-down menu.
Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) (recommended) or Mac OS Extended.
    7. Click on the Options button.
    8. Select the type of partition you want to use:
GUID Partition Table - for boot ability on Intel-based Macs
Apple Partition Map - for boot ability on PowerPC-based Macs
Master Boot Record - if you will use the drive on a PC as well as your Mac. Use this option ONLY if you selected PC-DOS as the format type.
CAUTION! In most cases, the computer will fail to format the drive as a Mac OS Extended (HFS+) partition using Master Boot Record. For best results, always choose GUID Partition Table (Intel) or Apple Partition Map (PowerPC).
    9. Click OK.
    10. Click Apply (10.5-10.6) or Partition (10.4). The drive is ready to use when the format completes.

How do you loop video content on an apple TV? I am trying to loop short video content for a commercial application in a public area on apple tv.

With iOS 4.2 you can create a playlist in iTunes, drag the video into the play list, play it in iTunes and hit the "Loop" button in the lower left hand corner. Then use Airplay to stream the video to the Apple TV. The new black ATV will work out of the box, you can jailbreak the old ATV with ATV Flash and install RemoteHD under apps and then you can stream to the old ATV using the same method.
