    I think it may be an overheating problem - which appears to be the norm for this make of computer;

however, since i am abroad in northern Ghana - I can not guarantee getting to an HP repair workshop.... hence would also be grateful to hear if this problem might be able to be a straightforward one, eg: the computer just needs a rest and then may return normally later when switched on

or whether to go through the long process, involving warrenty et al.

If the system is under warranty then call to nearby repair shop, as the steps given would cease the warranty.

1 Step:
You need to check out its Power unit (SMPS) placed at top in the CPU cabinet. May be it get worn out and need to replace.

2 Step: you can try is to Unplug the RAM (memory Stick) from the Slot and place it again after 10 min and then power on the machine.

Let me know the status after this to help you out. Don't vote till you get the solution.

Thanks,
Scott

My pc is booting but no display

Did you check your monitor with other system or individually. If it works fine in these conditions then the issue belongs to your pc.
First of all, you have to confirm that is it the problem of VGA itself or the motherboard. For this, you have to see that does system beep when you start it because system with beeps having the error and the beep sound with continuous or 2-3 beeps relate with different issues. I am going to write down the beep conditions.

Beep sound continus

I went to google and it seems like the beeps can be problems for different problems in the hardware, this is what one message says,  there are lots of computer beeping answers out there: 1 short beep is your BIOS saying "HELLO I'M OK"

Standard Original IBM POST Error Codes

1 short beep Normal POST - system is ok
2 short beeps POST Error - error code shown on screen
No beep Power supply or system board problem
Continuous beep Power supply, system board, or keyboard problem
Repeating short beeps Power supply or system board problem
1 long, 1 short beep System board problem
1 long, 2 short beeps Display adapter problem (MDA, CGA)
1 long, 3 short beeps Enhanced Graphics Adapter (EGA)
3 long beeps keyboard card

Each BIOS company has modified these codes over the years.

My ECS 915 G-A elite group motherboard doesnot display anymore on the monitor..

have you tried to isolate what the cause of the problem? first check the video card if is properly inserted into the slot, and check the memory, and cable from CPU to monitor if it is connected properly. then boot your system. And try to observe this beep error code this might help you locate where the problem is.
