Audiovox AVT 1598

Our Audiovox 12 volt television shows a white vertical line in the center of the screen when you turn it on. The picture would show and then get to a narrow vertical line. Now there is no picture at all except the white vertical line. Thanks

I have the exact same problem. The set is 7 years old and I am currently looking for a replacement. I am unsure whether to purchase the same model to make re-installation easier, or to go with something else and modify the mounting to fit.

    any suggestions?

Ours is in a 2000 conversion van, about 2 years ago when the TV got warmed up it just popped to a thin vertical line. I bought a little portable DVD player/TV but it broke now and I'd like to either fix this one or find one that will fit the hole.

The vertical output IC or the vertical circuit is whats at fault. its all solid state and im sorry to tell ya that its not a user replaceable part. This set is probably not worth the repair it would take to get this set working again but please if you like ask a ;ocal repair shop what they thought about this problem.. Good Luck and please dont forget to rate this thread

This is a "no horizontal sweep" problem, as in thin vert line--not thin hor line. Problem has been caused by a loose solder connection on the yoke plug on some sets.

My audiovox 13" monitor in my van shows only a 2-3" bar of gray static through the center of the screen. What is the problem? I can't seem to get my video channel or the menu even with the remote co

Visually check elec.capasitors, then measure output voltages of power supply. First of all, try to find service manual with schematic diagram in Internet. Vertical or horizontal scan seems to be fault.

Tip

TV shows either: black screen with: white vertical or, horizontal line

If Your screen shows a: white vertical line on a black screen or, a white horizontal line on a black screen:
Your TV vertical or, horizontal power transistor or, chip is getting too hot.
A vertical line indicates the horizontal circuit is at fault, a horizontal line indicates the vertical circuit is at fault.
To troubleshoot: Turn on your TV untill the line shows then: after about a minute, remove power (unplug) the TV, remove the TV back cover, find the too hot transistor or, chip; using component coolant; spray the too hot component with the component cooler until the screen comes back to normal. To fix: apply white coolant cream to the back of the too hot transistor or, chip. or, if there is room, a small fan can be wired in to cool the part. Radioshack sells the cream and, also a "component cooler spray" that should find and, fix this problem, also; with power removed you can, if you feel it is safe; carefully (with only one hand) feel the part; it will be very hot! (it could burn your finger!) Do not touch anything else! (this will not hurt the tv; when the picture comes back on (the offending part has cooled) you have found the problem part.

When I turn it on I have only a vertical line in the center of the screen. I can bump the front of the screen and it will come on sometimes. It's a Audiovox AVT-1498

I bet the line is left to right in the middle of the screen!

This is a vertical circuit problem. The bumping tells me a solder connection/s on the output ic are broken loose or poorly soldered.

It is a chip (I will attach a photo of a typical chip--yours will not be exactly like it but you should be able to locate it).

The part in the photo has the generic number (LA...... which is one designed by Sanyo but used in many different sets) The chip will usually have between 7 and 13 pins.

All someone has to do (unplug set and remove cover) is take it apart, gain access to the main board (it may slide out or if open view of the bottom just turn set on its side after you locate the part---part should be fairly easy to find as it is always bolted to a small metal plate to cool it.

Take a good look at the pins from the bottom and resolder all of them.

9 out of ten times a 10 minute job.

if questions or need help let me know with a comment here.

Toshiba 32 SDTV

The problem you are having is a vertical deflection problem. The screen is being compressed to a thin white line. It's probably a defective vertical output module or transistor. This part is not too expensive. Less likely would be a vertical deflection coil, which would be more expensive because its usually glued to the picture tube and harder to replace. You'll need to take your set to service center to have it serviced.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance to you.
Good Luck!

No Color on my Audiovox AVT-1498

That model has a history of bad solder connections in various circuits. I would not be surprised if that is the case with the color circuitry. You may get the color to come and go by slapping the sides of the TV or lifting one corner about 1/2 inch and dropping it. If it does, it is a bad connection and possibly fixable. If no change is noted, it could be a bad semiconductor or capacitor, etc., causing the symptoms. For that size set, it would probably be cheaper to replace with a different brand. Toshiba has a nice 14" model IMO.
