Question about Tomtom GO 910 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Frozen tomtom go 910

I was backing up my TomTom through TomTom Home and my computer went into power save or sleep mode during the back up (I didn't have my laptop plugged in). When I turned my computer back on, TomTom was frozen on screen that displays it's picture before going to all your options. It also wouldn't turn off. I reset, it turned back on, but acted like it was doing an initial reboot, then froze on picture page again. Please help.

Hi, Not a nice problem that. Try connecting your tomtom to PC ( not through home ) so the tomtom will look like a USB drive in "My Computer". if TomTom Home tries to load up , cancel it. Look in "My Compuer" If you do see the TomTom as a drive , open it up and copy the folders and files to your PC. If that works, now you have a backup and you can have a mess around knowing that if you mess things up , at least you can put things back as they were and you won't have made anything worse than it was before. Once thats done , try a harder reset in normal way but also hold the ON button in whilst doing the reset . Many people press too hard on the reset button and also hold it too long so just give one single press , only hard enough to feel it click in , then out. Thats all it needs for a reset and it avoide damaging the switch ( yes , I have seen many reset switched stuck in or broken ). I think theres 2 possible causes for your problem . 1/ You now have a corrupted file on your TomTom preventing the boot-up continuing. 2/ Your Tomtom is still trying to perform the last function ( backing up through TomTom-home ) and has somehow got stuck in that loop. For the moment , try the above and see how you get on and if you donn't solve it please post on this forum again .

Good luck .

After attempting to update my tomtom910 I have not been able to get beyond starting up and it switching itself off after a couple of mins when fully charged

If you updated the operating system, and you are having this problem then something went wrong with the update. Hope you made a backup before you updated. If you did not, connect your 910 to the pc and then go to "My Computer" and open the drive for your 910. Delete "ttsystem". Now open TomTom Home and let TomTom Home install the operating system for your 910.

Nothing happens when i plug my usb cable into my computer with the tomtom ONE

start tomtom home if it does not start automaticlly when you turn on your tomtom and connect it to your computer..if you dont have tomtom home, you can get it HERE.

if its still not connecting try another usb cable although im not sure in that one disconnects from the home dock on the 910

( i assume your using the home dock because thats the only way a 910 will hook up to a computer)

2 years old need to update maps tomtom 910

Hello mm1112,

Map updates for your TomTom GPS can be purchased and installed through the TomTom HOME GPS manager program. You will need to download and install the TomTom HOME software onto your computer.

You can find this software on the TomTom Plus Services website located here: http://www.tomtom.com/plus/service.php?ID=17.

Switch off/on

If TomTom Home isn't installed on the computer, you can go to http://www.tomtom.com/home to download the latest version. You'll be walked step-by-step through the downloading and installation procedures. Once that's installed on your computer, you may continue. - Plug the home charger into the wall and into the home dock - Plug the home dock into the computer through a USB port - Put the unit on the home dock, but keep it turned off - Go to http://www.tomtom.com/4987 - Scroll down to the first download choice "Window Update" - Turn your unit on - Run the file May 06 Update, no need to save it, ignore TomTom Home asking you to update - After the program runs, turn the unit off - Disconnect the unit from the mount, turn it back on, and reconnect it - Go to http://www.tomtom.com/6211 - Run the Clear Flash Tool, no need to save it - Open TomTom Home and click 'Download Your Updates' in the first column at the top if it's not there already - There will be a Program Application available for download, say 'OK' - After item is downloaded it will ask you if you want to install the downloaded items, say 'OK' - Using 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon in your toolbar, safely disconnect your GO 910 - You may need to reset the device once or twice (http://www.tomtom.com/7134) - The unit should now boot up with no problems If you have any further questions or comments, please e-mail or call us at 866-486-6866 Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM until 7:00 PM EST.
