Touchpad The pointer for my Dell Inspiron 6400 makes uncoordinated moves after a while when I connect to a power source but is OK when it runs on battery. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the touchpad drivers but the problem still persists. Kindly let me know the problem. Thanks

Hi Ayubehenzo,
You will need to run 32 bit dell diag's.
You would need start the pc and the tap F12 button on the Dell Logo. Select the last option diagnostics. On the option where it says that were color bars displayed type "N" once the tests are done press "N" where it says do you wanna continue the remaining memory tests. Once this is done you will get a message loading dell diagnostic utility partition. you will now need to choose the custom test and then need to run a test on the touchpad. If this still doesnt resolve your issue you will need to call Dell Technical Support.

Dell inspiron 6400 touchpad and keyboard work intermittently. battery light was flashing red this morning. i have to hit the keys several times before they work. laptop is plugged in.

sounds like your main battery needs replacing, move your mouse over the battery icon in the system tray(by the clock),to see if the battery is charging. If it is battery needs replacing. This can cause all kinds of strange issues .

Touchpad not working

Hello, my best solution would be to check ebay and order one there. If you are familiar with removing the power button bezel, do so and remove the keyboard as well. Then check the connection for the mouse. Its a small little ribbon cable coming from the mouse area.
Here is a direct link you can get these parts from:

I hope you have a great day, Please rate my solution.

Touchpad Sensitivity

Click on the start menu and select "Control Panel". Once in the control panel, select "Hardware and Sound". Once in the hardware and sound menu, click on "Mouse". Once the mouse menu comes up, there should be a tab labeled "Dell Touchpad". Click on that tab and then click on the large touchpad icon to take you to the touchpad options. Once in the touchpad options menu, click on "Device Select". Once you click on deivce select you should see the option to "enable" or "disable" the touchpad.

Touchpad problem

May be your touchpad had lost its contact with the motherboard, due to broken wires or lose cable. If your laptop is out of warranty open it, do this: Find out the flat cable that connects your touchpad and motherboard. Make sure it is connected preoperly, if not do it well. And start your machine. If connection is OK and still not working you should replace the cable or replace the entire touchpad unit. Note: do remember to check your BIOS for disabled touchpad device. If so enable it.
