I tried to print and it opens up a dialogue box, asking for the output file. This is a recent problem and I don't know what to do. I can't get anything printed because of this dialogue box. There is a brand new cartridge in the printer and a tray full of paper. PLEASE help me!!!!!!!!

Re: does not print. Asks for output file instead.
The default printer is set to be "file". Here's what you must do:
- Go to printers dialogue box and right click on your printer name and selectd "Set s default printer" - Right click on printers name and chose Properties. then look for a check box saing something like "print to file" and unchek it.
- If you need clarification, ask it in the comment box above.

If you have a virtual printer (PDF printer like BullZip, PDFPrint, or something else) maybe it is your default printer and when you chose the option "print" you need to choose the the right printer (in your situation
HP Officejet Pro L7780 ) Good luck.
Reinstall the printer drivers. (completely remove the old ones first) Try new drivers from HPs website if need be.
Check the print queue in control panel>printers to make sure nothing is lying in the print queue and blocking your printing.
Make sure that you are printing to the correct printer in the "print" dialogue box that pops up when you go file>print. Sometimes this can revert to "microsoft document printing" or somesuchand just save a file on your hard drive instead of printing (in techie
speak, printing does not necessarily mean print out on a bit of paper). Or may the "Print" dialogue box wrongly is pointed at another/old printer that still has drivers installed on your pc when it pops up, check before clicking the "ok" button..
It is windows way of storing a document for printing later.
It will save the job you want to print at another time but ask you for a file name so that you can give it a name you will remember.
It will do this if it is set as the DEFAULT printer.
To change that and provided you have a printer installed then go to CONTROL PANEL / printers and faxes / then right click on the printer you want as the default and on the box that opens will be that exact option, click it and you are done. it wont ask you those questions again.
you need to go into control panel and open up printers....should give you a list of all the printers you have installed....if you've got a printer installed right click on its icon and choose set as default...(if you've haven't got one installed.. install one) then you're good to go.....reason your getting output file question is that your default printer is set to microsoft office document image writer or similar ....
