Question about HP DeskJet F380 All-In-One Printer

1 Answer

Does not print. Asks for output file instead.

I tried to print and it opens up a dialogue box, asking for the output file. This is a recent problem and I don't know what to do. I can't get anything printed because of this dialogue box. There is a brand new cartridge in the printer and a tray full of paper. PLEASE help me!!!!!!!!

Thanks so much for your help. It was actually a port problem; I'd mistakenly set it to a different port which I detected and changed it back to LPT1. Thanks once again for your help.

I have the same problem occurring on 2 PCs. When printing PDF files, the user is prompted for an Output File Name. All other file types print OK.

On 1 PC JawsPDF is used, on the other Acrobat Reader 7. The printers look to be set up OK, ie output is NOT directed to FILE.

Only common denominator seems to be that both printers are shareable and are connected via USB to the 2 PCs which have the printing issues. All other users of these printers have no problems printing PDF files.

The default printer is set to be "file". Here's what you must do:

- Go to printers dialogue box and right click on your printer name and selectd "Set s default printer"
 - Right click on printers name and chose Properties. then look for a check box saing something like "print to file" and unchek it.

This sould resolve the problem.
Best regards

Cannot print PDF, pop up asks to print to file and enter an Output File Name

If you have a virtual printer (PDF printer like BullZip, PDFPrint, or something else) maybe it is your default printer and when you chose the option "print" you need to choose the the right printer (in your situation HP Officejet Pro L7780 )
Good luck.

When you give a print command,a dialogue box opens which contains properties, print range all these stuffs,in that there is an option called as 'reverse pages'

.please check weather this box is 'TICKED'.If that box is ticked please remove it. so that you can make the printer to print as 1,2,3,...etc.

Can't print from computer

Reinstall the printer drivers. (completely remove the old ones first)
Try new drivers from HPs website if need be.

Check the print queue in control panel>printers to make sure nothing is lying in the print queue and blocking your printing.

Make sure that you are printing to the correct printer in the "print" dialogue box that pops up when you go file>print. Sometimes this can revert to "microsoft document printing" or somesuchand just save a file on your hard drive instead of printing (in techie speak, printing does not necessarily mean print out on a bit of paper). Or may the "Print" dialogue box wrongly is pointed at another/old printer that still has drivers installed on your pc when it pops up, check before clicking the "ok" button..

If not, try a new cable, if not, call HP.

What is print to file? What is output file name?

It is windows way of storing a document for printing later.

It will save the job you want to print at another time but ask you for a file name so that you can give it a name you will remember.

It will do this if it is set as the DEFAULT printer.

To change that and provided you have a printer installed then go to CONTROL PANEL / printers and faxes / then right click on the printer you want as the default and on the box that opens will be that exact option, click it and you are done. it wont ask you those questions again.

Every time i try and print it asks for a output file name?

you need to go into control panel and open up printers....should give you a list of all the printers you have installed....if you've got a printer installed right click on its icon and choose set as default...(if you've haven't got one installed.. install one) then you're good to go.....reason your getting output file question is that your default printer is set to microsoft office document image writer or similar ....
