Which external hard drive shall i purchase for the gateway dx4320-01e desktop

Any external USB hard drive will work with your Gateway. Drivers for these USB hard drives are not required unless your Gateway is running with Windows 98.
External USB hard drives come in various disk capacities, select a hard disk with a capacity that suits your requirements

When i turn on my laptop a warning notice comes on screen immediately saying smart failure predicted on hard disc 0:ST9160310AS-(PM). Warning immediately back up your data and replace your hard disc drive....

It means exactly what the message says.
The hard drive is going to fail in the near future. I recommend you back up your data before the hard drive fails completely.
When the hard drive fails, replace the hard drive, and use your Compaq recovery disk to install Windows and the device drivers plus your programs to get the laptop working again.

i looks like you are working with the wrong part the problem here seems to be the hard drive and not the ram.

I recently moved and when i went to start up my computer it takes me to a blue screen say memory is being dumped. Prior to that though there is a screen saying that a "0 drive" can not be found. Any idea...

Your 0 Drive is the main hard disk drive in your computer. That is where Windows is installed. If the pc doesn't see it, it cannot start. If you've moved, the hard drive cable or power connection may have come loose. You can try opening the case and reseating all connections and see if that works. If not, it's possible your hard drive is damaged and not working.

Dear friend first Check the Ram try with another one. if it is not

2. May problem with Your Hardware like pci cards, hard drivers. remove those pci cards then try again.

Mypoor laptop

Dear rahrah1815,

It appears that what you have is a bad hard drive. First make sure your hard drive has not come loose from the inside. In the Vaio it may be possible for the 2.5 Hd to come lose, usually tehre is a small door with hwo screws in the back that houses the Hard Disk. With the laptop turned off, open the hatch and push the hard drive gently. Then turn it on. If that is not the problem then youmy have to insert your recovery CD and go through the process of reinstalling your OS.

Good luck!

The screen comes up and says Windows was not shut down properly, and to start in Normal, safe mode, etc. to choose one of them. Nothing happens and it keeps trying to start. So once I hit f11 to recover,...

If you Click OK on the system restore, the system will be re-imaged from a hidden partition on the hard drive and will be restored to the way the system was when it came out of the box. Anything you saved or stored on the hard drive, (Pictures, files, games email, resume etc) will all be gone.

Because the system will not boot into the normal mode, it is assumed that the current Windows installation is at a minimum damaged. The damage could be caused by:
  1. Virus/spyware
  2. Hard drive failure
  3. various unkown issues
If you are wanting to save data off this hard drive, just power it off at the system restore screen.

If you can, run diagnostics on the hard drive (Dell has F12 at boot to access diagnostics) If the hard drive fails, your data recovery options are limited.

Data recovery is expensive, so you have to weigh the value of the data versus the cost of getting it back.

Hard drive message

Probably the hard-drive has gone bad.. First try a complete re-install of windows (you will lose all saved data on the hard-drive, so if you can, back up all important files first)..

If that doesn't work, you need to purchase a new hard-drive
