Can Not Print

I Deleted my Magicard Avalon ID Printer and now i cant find my driver CD
Where can I get this drivers.

You will then be offered the latest driver suitable for your printer.

Pronto id card printer is not working


Hi There,

This may be a simple driver issue.
If the USB cable is moved around on the PC, multiple copes may be installed in your Devices & Printers folder.
To test the printer, double-click on the printer's front panel button. It should print its internal test card.
To test the USB connection to the printer, download, install and run the ID Card Printer Support Utility (this requires no driver).
If you can connect using the support utility, then it is a driver issue.
Unplug the printer (power cable), delete any pending print jobs for the Pronto (including any copies - Copy1, Copy2, etc.).
Uninstall the printer driver from the control panel (Programs Uninstall).
Reboot the PC. Download the latest driver (V2.0.9). Run the installation. Plug in the power cable when prompted.
The support utility, driver etc. can all be downloaded here;

(You will need your printer's serial number which is on the base).

Sorry for the delay in replying to your request.

If you mean 'magnetic encoding', by far the most common reason for MAG encoding problems is the printer requires cleaning. The MAG encoding performance drops long before any problem with print quality is seen. Clean the printer thoroughly using the Magicard cleaning kit for the Avalon (part number M9005-761).
There are some useful videos showing the cleaning sequence here;

Enter your Avalon printer's serial number in the QuickSearch box (open the lid, and the serial number will be on the label below the printhead).

Magicard rio 2e, the printer needs to print the access codes on the otherside


The Rio 2E is a single side printer to print on both sides of the card you need a Tango 2E Printer.

Hi There,

First of all, for Windows Vista, you need to be using the very latest driver (V6.02).
You can download this by following the link below;

Just enter your printer's serial number in the QuickSearch box.

Please Note: - With CardFive software, you need to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the printer list, then select the printer driver with the Windows logo next to it called 'Magicard Printer Series'.

If you still can't print from the CardFive software, can you print the Windows test page?

Printing problem


Hi JuanU,

Which version of Windows are you running now? Vista?
If it is Vista, you will need to use the newer 'UltraDriver' for the Opera printer (V1.3.0.0 Issue 1).
This can be downloaded from Magicard's web site here;

NOTE!!! This driver will ONLY work with the following operating systems: Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003 and VISTA. If your PC has a different OS from those above DO NOT install this driver!

If you have an 'older' Opera printer which does not have an 'E' in the serial number, you will need to change the 'PRODUCT ID' from 2000 to 2800 before this driver will recognise the printer.

This is quite simple to do. Download and install the Magicard Support Utility Version 3.13 by clicking on this link;

Run the Utility, select 'USB' for the comms port.
When the other tabs open up, select 'Statistics / Commands'.
In the 'Quick Command' box type;

PID2800

Then click 'Send'.

Exit the Magicard Support Utility, and unplug the printer's power cable.
Now, install the UltraDriver version 1.3.0.0 Issue 1.
When the driver install has finished, plug the power cable into the printer. The hardware wizard will finish the installation and you will then see the 'Magicard Opera' printer icon in your printers folder.
It should then work fine.

Static Warning light


Hi Angela,

The Red LED has the following function;

On all the time (not flashing) - Lid is open.
On and flashing - An error has occured. ('out of dye film', 'card jam', etc).
The error would normally be reported on the PC screen via the status monitor. If the status monitor is not running you will not get any error messages. To get the status monitor running again, it's easiest just to re-install the driver. The drivers can be downloaded from Magicard's web site The latest driver for the Rio 2 / Tango 2 (V6.01) is also compatible with the Rio 1 / Tango 1 printers. Download the driver from here;

IMPORTANT: When you run the driver installation setup program, the printer should be switched off. Also, you will be given the following choice;
'Add a printer' or 'update driver files'. Select 'update driver files'. The PC will then ask you to restart. The installation will continue after the reboot. Select your communication type (either USB - recommended, or LPT). You will be prompted to switch on and connect the printer. If USB the port name will be 'NUSB01'. Follow the rest of the instructions to the end of the installation. You will be asked to choose the model at the end.

You should now have a working status monitor. Let me know what the error says on the PC screen if you get one when the printer initialises.

I have error whenever i just select encoding only


Hi There, I presume (from the error number) that you are using LC3 (monochrome) dye film in your printer. This error is normally given when the printer detects LC3 (monochrome) dye film, but is then sent 'Colour' printing data from the driver. If you have 'encode only' selected there should be no printing data sent to the printer at all (number of copies = 0), only the mag stripe information should be sent. I suggest you contact Magicard Technical Support in the UK (I am one of their support engineers). We will need some further information (serial number of the printer, etc). Please also check you have the latest firmware (print the internal test card by pushing the button on the back) and are using the latest driver.
