The Bose Wave Radio has two brightness levels: Bright Hi (with a range of 8-15, and default of 10) and Bright Lo (1-8, default 4). The radio automatically goes from Hi to Lo when a room is darkened so the display doesn't interfere with sleep.
On recent models you can reset the defaults to make the display brighter or dimmer in both Hi and Lo levels.
1. Press and hold the Alarm Setup (Menu) button on your remote until -setup menu- appears in the display.
2. Then press the Tune/MP3 button until Bright Hi- appears. Use the Time - or Time + buttons to change the settings.
3. Go to Bright Lo- and adjust that setting too if necessary.
4. Press Alarm Setup (Menu) again to exit setup, or simply wait 10 seconds.
You're done! Note that if you set both Hi and Lo to 8, the brightness will stay the same all day and night.
Yes...within a range. The display will automatically lighten and darken depending on the amount of light in the room. During the day or when there are bright lights in the room, the display will go to full brightness. When the lights go off or the room is otherwise darkened, the display will shift down to a lower brightness. You can make the "lower brightness" a bit brighter by holding down the CLOCK SET button and pressing the 'volume up' button.
This alarm clock radio features an adjustable display backlight, with dim, medium, and bright settings. To select a backlight setting, press the Snooze/Dimmer Bar until the desired brightness is reached.
The LCD has a dimmer circuit that can be responsible, in some case it is not the dimmer regulation, but the LCD control circuit itself. In that case you have no LCD backlight and the display is almost unreadable. If that is the problem, changing dimmer settings with procedure below will not help.
Most of the time the problem is dimmer regulation.
About dimmer regulation:
Try disconnecting the unit power cord for ten minutes and connect back. Try holding down CD or CLOCK button and pressing at the same time the volume buttons. This procedures regulates Bose dimmers setting in a scale from one to 9. The dimmer has separate settings for medium and low brightness. Set both to 5 if you want to disable dimmer settings.
A-ha! Those manuals sure do come in handy sometimes. I found the solution. In addition to functioning as a snooze button for delaying the alarm, the snooze button is also a brightness button for the time. If you press snooze one time it changes the time brightness from bright to dim, press it again and it goes from dim to motion sensitive only, press it again and it returns to bright.
I just tried this and resolved my problem. I hope it helps you as well. Enjoy!
The display on my clock is red as well. I found it that way when I came home from work today. It had lost all of its settings as well. I put everything back to the way it was supposed to be but I can't get the color to change. I guess something just quit.
