Hello Crazyswanz

In order to access the fan, 5 other areas of the laptop must be removed first. These are detailed in the "ThinkPad Computer Hardware Maintenance Manual" found in PDF format from the following link from IBMs website : ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/92p1840.pdf

(If that link is broken, the manual can be found by first visiting this webpage on their site : http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-42308)

The instructions on how to access the fan are listed on page 81, however you best check whether this is covered, and would validate your warranty before accessing the inside of your laptop.

Hope this helps!

All I had to do was open up the center access panel on the bottom and blow out the fan.

SOURCE: t30 fan error

Hi,

Well, the fan is either unplugged from it's socket, froze up, or completely clogged with dust, etc and is giving the bios reason to shut down.

Also tho, tell me, does the time and date keep needing to be reset?

Could be a cmos battery. Some of the older thinkpads were like that, although my T30 has never shown this problem.

Good luck

SOURCE: laptop won't turn on

Same thing with mine...won't turn on properly. Before this happened, I was recieving the so-called "blue screen of death" error message. I wonder if this has anything to do with it. Anyone else recieved error messages. - Rich

My laptop IBM X 61 says fan error at bot up then freezes up

I would say there's an error with your fan. Running a computer without a fan is a very bad idea, so your computer probably shuts down to protect its self. Any problem with the fan is probably mechanical, so it would need to be fixed or replaced before you can use your pc.

Can you hear the fan running when you start up your computer? Does it make any unusual noises (clicking, grinding..)?

FAN ERROR ON LAPTOP

If the laptop is actually saying Fan Error, then that means the cpu fan is failing, or completely failed. You need to get it to a shop as soon as possible and have it replaced. In the meantime, If you absolutely have to use the laptop, make sure to keep it cool. If it overheats, it will fry the board, and your laptop will be dead.

No sound in my ibm T30 laptop

ok, go to start>control panel>system>hardware>device manager. then expand the "sound devices" category, try to find what looks like your sound card and double click on it to open the properties window. Then go to the "driver" tab and click on update driver....hope this helps....if you know any information about your sound card, that'd help......you can search for the currect drivers and firmware online.
