Mitsubishi will have a VS, WS model number.

Most will have a date made on the rear and ones after about 1998 have a self check.

If green power light comes on for a few seconds and goes off:

On the front of the set (not the remote) press and hold BOTH THE MENU AND INPUT (input on some models is Device) FOR AT LEAST 5 SECONDS AND RELEASE BOTH.

Power light will blink a 2 digit error code like: 2 blinks, 2 blinks a pause and repeat it several times.

If you have unplugged the set that clears the error code and you will have to plug it in and try to turn on again--then do the check.

Let me know what error code you find and I will tell you what it means--2,2, is the most common one.

Try to turn on shuts down right a way ws_65809 7yrs old

You may just need to replace a few components in your tv or there mmight be something loose. First part of the TV that usually shows up with a problem is the power supply. Check the power supply for loose soldering or leaking capacitor. If there are none on those circuit make your way up to the main board and have it checked.

Our Mitsubishi WD 52525 goes to blue screen and shuts off.

It sounds like you TV is overheating and the video is suffering and the lamp is overheating as well. Also, if your TV is over 2-3 years old, the mirrors (behind and below the big front screen) desperately need to be cleaned. Clean all filters and fans as well. (Look on side and behind the unit). Is the TV in a "hot" environment and/or dirty environment? DLP TV's are NOT sealed units. They need to be cleaned every few years to work well to have a good, clear, bright picture.
