Question about Belkin Computers & Internet

7 Answers

Have Netflix ROKU . Having trouble downloading movies.

I have the NETFLIX ROKU for downloading movies. I hooked it up with the BELKIN G Wireless Router. I have unit wired with cable and am not using wireless function. Most times in AM can download movies with ease. In evening will not download most of the time, but sometimes will.
ROKU sent me a second unit, does same thing.
I have TV in next room and it seems it takes longer to download than if I use a different TV in same room as computer, and Belkin router. Doesn't make sense.
I called tech assistance at ROKU but none of his ideas work.
Tested download speed of computer 5ll0KBPS, UL speed 652KBPS.
When it takes a long time to load movie it will play for a few minutes and then load more of the movie and play for another few minutes..
HELP HELP.... Out of ideas... Thanks....

I received a response from one of your experts. It said to open the port for the connection the roku is connected to. I just tried it now and works fine. Later it will not. Does that mean the port is open or by opening the port, in a differebnt manner, does it let more through at one time. Also don't know how to open the port..

Is your wireless (even if you're not using it) turned off or secured from freeloaders (evening slowdowns?).

Speed that you have indicated seems fine. However slow downloading can be reason of the server that you are downloading the movie from. If you are downloading movies like macromedia flash stream, Use real player's latest version. Also please provide the links that you are downloading movies.

The problem you are saying is a general problem because when you download, sum times servers are free (no other download less consumption of server memory) so it will download fast and sum time when the server are busy they cant able to give you a good speed.
Thank you for using FixYa.

The router may have been blocking the connection and you may need to open the port that your ROKU is using to allow the full download behind the router that you have,....

652KBPS are not enough to download smoothly

652KBPS are not enough to downloadmovies and at the same time watch movies on a different TV.

The TV stream needs at least 512Kbps, and the result still won't be optimal.

I am sorry , but the only problem here is the bandwidth, the only solution is upgrading your boadband, or renuntiating to the download when you want to watch TV stream.

The fact that one or the other TV is more affected is only because some of the IP, by chance gets better priority than the other. The main problem is bandwidth

About router blocking the connection, I do not think this is the case, when the router firewall blocking the connection, you just get network error and no streaming.
when the movie will play for a few minutes then stops, it is because it is buffering, that means that the bandwith is not enough.

625Kbps is barely enough to watch one straming at a time, without downloading at the same time.

By open the port, the expert probably meant , granting full access to the port used by the downloader, this is an operation that you standarly do when you use torrent and similar downloader, to allow full communication with peers.

To open a port, you access to the router control panel and change setup.

I do not think this will help.

Netflix will only play about 3 to 5 seconds of a movie before going back to download, why is this happening

There are many reasons that can happen:
Netflix website has too much data "traffic"/ too many people using Netflix.
Your internet provider is having problems/ too much data "traffic".
Your modem or router is having problems.
If you are using a smart tv, a video game console, or something like a Roku or Apple Tv box, their server network might be having problems/ data "traffic".

If you want a better answer, you need to give more detail as to how you are watching Netflix (on a computer, Roku, video game console) and say if its during a specific time of the day/random/once in awhile.

I want to connect to my samsung tv to watch netflix, can you help?

Will / can this laptop access your home network and the web, ether wireless or wired? If you can deal with it being wired to your router all you need is a network cable and plug it in to the router. If you have a wireless home network or router, and you are wanting to hook up wirieless. you will need a wireless adapter for your laptop. The better ones are D-link, Belkin, Linksys, Cisco. I would recommend to stay away from Netgear they are not easy to work with for a first time user. These wireless adapters will plug into a USB port and once the soft ware is installed away you go, easy as that. Access your netflix account and you are watching movies. Another thing you may consider would be if you have a TV and you want to watch netflix on it,, is a Roku player. Check them out >>> here

Trying to hook up roku wireless player, need pass word?

You want to try the Roku player so you can stream NetFlix to your TV over your home internet connection. It can be a bit of a hair pulling experience to set one up. So I'll try and make it as easy as it can be. First; Once you receive your player, and connect it to your TV. You need to get your new player on to your home network, be sure you have a router with wireless capability's. You will need to know the name of your home network, and you will need to know your WEB key or the pass key to secure your access into your home network. To do this, go to "Settings" (on the Roku menu) then scroll thru the menu until you see "Network", press network, look for your home network and press on it, then put in the WEB key to access your home network router. Remember after each step unplug the Roku for 10 to 20 seconds to set the memory.(may take more than 1 time with some players) NEXT; Go to Roku's internet site and set up your account with them, they will need info on how to bill you if need be. So they will need some bank account info Or you can use PayPal. They need this info in case you order a pay for movie or swap to a paid channel. Next On the Roku "My Account" page, down at the right bottom of the page you will see the "Link Player" button, follow this to receive your Link code, write this code down and go to your TV, Roku menu screen and put in the Link Code. This will now activate your new Roku player. Next you will want to go to NetFlix and set up an account with them. Same thing here, they need bank account info to bill you, if you stay past the free demo time limit. Now go back to your TV, Roku menu and scroll thru the menu to press on NetFlix, here you will go thru the Menu to get another link code. This time it will come on the TV, Roku menu to go back and put that code in your NetFlix account to activate your Roku player with NetFlix. Now in the process of all this you may have to unplug your Roku player after each link code to set it into memory. This causes a lot of folks trouble as they do not, "Turn Off" the Roku after they put in the network key, the Roku link code, then again after they put in the NetFlix link code. One last bit of help. Do not create a large Instant Queue on your NetFlix account. This causes problems with the memory usage in the Roku player, and It can keep NetFlix from loading.

Hooking up the Wii to the cable modum, what all do I need for Netflix to work ? I hear I need a wireless router, do I need more than just a wireless router.

What people use is a Roku box and a wireless router.
You can stream the Netflix movies from the wireless router to the Roku box which connects to your TV. There are some new TVs that have built-in wireless adapters and in that case, you don't need the Roku box.
