1.What happens to the power light after the monitor goes blank? Does it blink or change color?

2.How does the pic come back (if it does)?

3.What are the status lights on the computer when this happens?

    4. Have you tried the same monitor on the diff computer, or a diff monitor on this computer to see if the issue reoccurs?

    5. Which make and model of monitor do you have, and how old is it?

Try to log in safe mode and if you didn't encounter the problem while on the safe mode, i assume there's a conflict with MS software distribution pack and video card driver. go to system restore if you can un restore point says software distribution pack then restore your pc before in an early stage before you have the distribution pack.

Screen wont turn on at all hit the power botton screen stays black

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for:
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

HP F1903 monitor

sure the F1903
is a LCD monitor but is old , it has
and CCFL black lamp.
it has board inside that is the power supply /inverter
this board runs the lamps.
the lamps love to fail after 10 long year of service
so when monitor fails, push the menu botton on the front
is the OSD menu dead (monitor brains inside)???

see bottom of this page , see CCFL and PCB there?
if lamps bad replace them
if PCB bad replace it, seen sold on Ebay , vastly, there.

some of these old monitors.
have silly internal sleep mode,
turn that off. (push menu button on front)
see OSD (on screen,display menus)
see settings
see power saver mode, turn it OFF,

Hp on start up windows starts up but screen is black

we may need more details:
it may not hurt to check the obvios first: is your monitor data cable connected properly to your tower?... is your power cable connected? is the monitor on??
if screen is on but it's just black the simple possible causes are:
1. your brigtness settings are all the way down... adjust with bottons on your monitor
2. your monitor may be going bad... try to test the monitor on a known good pc
3. your video adapter/controller may be bad... borrow another monitor and test to see if you get a picture.

if after doing 1,2 and 3.. .3 is what you see as the cause, you may have to replace your video adapter.. a. if it's the one that came with computer... get/replace the video card.
if replacing video card is not working for you... try to check memory

Hp monitor black screen

Check for the updated drivers as well as your video card, if you have an internal video card and have tested it (your computer) on another monitor it is more than likely the inverter in the monitor the coils (on the mainboard) need to be resoldered more than likely.
Check the backlight as well

Problem with Dell E152FP Monitor

If you open the monitor up, on the inverter board is a 1000uF 16v capacitor that goes bad. If you replace that it should fix the problem. Look at the top of all the capacitors and you should see one that's popped up on the top, that would be the bad one. Some soldering is required. Make sure you put the negative white stripe on the white side of the silk screen on the board! Its a simple fix just sounds difficult.
