My son tried to upgrade my gps and in the mapsource unlocking code typed DEMO. well now my streetpilot 2620 is now in demo mode. HOW DO I GET OUT OF THIS/ FIX THIS.
How do you do a Master Reset? i found out by holding menu & find i get a dianostic menu and the cornice hard drive is shown as unknown. i try to transfer from device via Mapsource but get error : Req memory for installing maps is missing from GPS.
If it says cornice drive no found when in diagnostic mode then the Hard drive is probably toasted - a common problem. I salvaged a hard drive out of a unit with a broken screen but the new Frankenstein unit required a new unlock code. The 2610 model came with maps that can be used on a 2nd unit so I asked Garmin to give me an unlock code for my rebuilt 2620 that came from a 2610 that had been stolen form my car. Otherwise the unlock code will cost you $99.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US. click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. Goodluck!

Yes. There is one more mapset and then there will be no more for us using the StreetPilot 2620. You are looking for the disc set North American Navigator 2009. Make sure you do not purchase the NT version. I found the item on EBAY for $81and purchased it and it worked just fine. The 2009 is the last compatible map set that Garmin released for the 2620. Be certain that what you purchase includes that unlock key otherwise you will spend another $75 on that at the Garmin Unlock Site.
Here is the link that is good for a few more days, however, may relist it. The seller is yumelectronics and the search term is 2009 City Navigator.
Turn the unit off, then hold down
the menu and map buttons, simultaneously, then turn the unit back on
and continue to hold down the buttons down for at least five more
seconds, then the unit will power up. At that point it's like the unit
is being used for the first time and you will have to reset everything.
You will lose your XM presets, but the MP3's were still there.
Also after if this does not work, plug in your
garmin and mount it, mac or pc whatever, then go in your garmin file
erase all maps should be gmapsupp.img or gmapprom.img. Reload your maps
There is gaps in the mapping in all states....a new version of software is due out soon, there has not been an update for quite some time(over 14months I have heard) There is some suggestion that you can update the operating system and then almost all the other brands of mapping will work??? I like Tom Tom myself it has some fantastic features like being able to play the route in demo mode in a fast speed to see where you are going. And putting in an alternative route, selecting streets with one key touch mode etc etc
You will need to purchase Mapsource NT 2008 to get the latest maps. The upgrade will come with a serial number which you will use to register on garmin's website. You will also need your unit ID, it can be found on the back of your unit, when you register with Garmin. Afterward you will get your unlock code (25 characters). You will enter the unlock code in Mapsource before installing the maps onto your Garmin.
I fixed my C530 on my own. Garmin support will not give you this solution. I attached the GPS to the computer with the usb cable. I used the file explorer in windows to view the file system on the GPS. I sorted the files by date. Then I moved the files that had a newer date than the last time the GPS worked, to an backup folder on my computer in case I need to restore the files to the GPS again. I than disconnected the GPS from the computer and restarted the GPS. The GPS works perfect now and doesn't enter the demo mode any longer.
