Re: ps3 wont turn on
Ur may actually be in luck. you may just need a powersupply (60 on ebay). if the motherboard was damaged you will need soldering skills with a continuity tester to check for voltage at certain MOSFETS and pass through points...if unit is still under warranty (<1yr) please return to SONY 1800345SONY

get a blue ray cleaner from your local store or purchase a repair kit for PS3. You left it on too long and burn the lens out and dust and dirt built up over nite. Or, you can try sending it to Sony to repair it. Or, go to a pawn shop and find another PS3 and swamp the hard drives.
Ok, follow these simple steps and your PS3 should display properly on the TV.
Step 1. Turn your PS3 onto standby (red light on)
Step 2. Press and hold the power button. It will beep as soon as you press it then beep again 5 seconds later. Release the power button
Step 3. Wait for the PS3 to restart.
This resets your video resolution back to standard definition. You should now be able to setup your video settings correctly using the PS3.

Turn off the switch at the back of your ps3. Turn it back on. hold down the power button for about 5 seconds until the ps3 will turn on and then off automatically. let go and then press and hold the power button again. it will beep once, then twice. Once it beeps twice let the button go. ps3 will show a new menu. Choose option 3 to restore file system. Your ps3 might do the restore twice in a row and then it will work. None of your files will be deleted.
Try reseting your PS3. Turn your PS3 completely off by the switch in the back. Then flip the switch back on. Press on the power button and hold it until the green light comes on, beeps twice then the green light should go out, replaced by a red light. Then turn it on normally.
you mean icons my friend. your harddrive may be failing, When you turn on the PS3 the harddrives parttion sector is read ...this is where info for your desktop and icons is kept. if your hardrive has bad sectors it will result in an erratic mannner such as what you are describing. goto a local gamestop or friend and get another harddrive. insert it into your ps3 and see if that works...but remember all info get deleted of the hardrive
