I have a sony vaio VGN SZ483N and the audio out for earphone is not working all the time. In some days it works, but most of the time, I get no sound when I plug earphones. How can I fix this problem? Thanks.

Often there is NOT enough output to drive the TV's audio amplifier directly from the earphone's port. You will need a small Pre-amplifier, in between the two, You should also try your "Line Out" as that puts out more signal, than the earphone jack. If that still will not drive it, then toy will need a pre-amp, Radio Shack, or the like will have them. Also ensure your Volume is set high.
What generally happens to connectors, especially exposed to air is they oxydize.
Buy a can of "Contact Cleaner" from a local Radio Shack and spray it (through the thin tube usually provided) into the jack. One quick push, dont flood it. Take the earphone jack and insert and remove it several times, wiping off excess, which sould clear contacts and it should work normally again. If not it would have to be replaced which is no easy matter requiring an experienced Technician or Factory. Sometimes it cannot be replaced without damaging the Mother Board. Go to start, control panel, administrative tools, computer management, device manager. Look for a yellow question mark. Right click and update or install driver. Make sure you let windows search online when it asks you. Good luck.
