A short list of things to check:

Sound in set or a box muted OR turned low.

Speakers in the set (see menu) switched on or off.

Internal/external switch set external

Does set have sound when a DVD is connected to rear inputs.

If connected with cable or sat box to rear inputs of set try unplugging both box and set--wait a short time and plug back to allow both to reboot.

Clearly it could be an audio problem in the set (Got the model number?) but explore all this and also make sure if set has a audio mode on remote it is set to stereo.
