New honeywell thermostat on new gas furnace not working
I installed a Honeywell RTH230B digital thermostat on a new gas furnace. With the mode switch on "heat" and the fan switch on "auto", bumping the temperature up does not cause the furnace to run. I moved the fan switch to "on" and the fan started, but not the burner. I then removed the thermostat and jumped the red and white wires together and the furnace started right up. I thought - bad thermostat- and bought another one. It did the same thing. I checked the instructions and they mention a 3 minute delay for cooling, but not for heating. Any help would be appreciated.

the colors of old system are for heat pump.if you have a heat pump you need heat pump thurmostat and colrs will make more sense.if not,then you need to go into furnace to see what colors go where.yellow is cool, goes to compressor contactor,usually another wire going from furnace to outside unit.green is fan relay rh is heat call rc is cool call
The 2nd combination is correct (w/ jumper). Wire nut or tape the blue wire. The snow flake shows it's going into cooling mode after a 5 min delay. If the AC is not coming on then the problem may not be the thermostat. If you don't have 24VAC between the red wire and the blue one the problem is at the furnace or it's supply. If you do, then check for 24VAC between the blue wire and Y on the thermostat(after the 5min delay) - if it's there the thermostat is calling for cooling. To check the heat, switch the thermostat to heat mode and use the W(instead of Y) on the thermostat(after the flame stops flashing).
First you are using abnormal wire colors for a furnace. Second.... if you have an air conditioner hooked up to this furnace, you will need to install a jumper wire between rh & rc. I am assuming this is a natural gas furnace. Usually the red wire to R terminals. Usaully the white wire to the W terminal. Take the door off of the furnace. Find the thermostat wire connection in the furnace. What ever color wire is on the R terminal in the furnace should hook to the R terminal on the t/stat. Whatever color is on the W in the furnace goes on the W on the t/stat. Whatever color is on the G terminal in the furnace goes to G on the t/stat. And the Y in the furnace to the Y on the stat. and the G in the furnace to the G on the stat. Most applications use only the R, W, G, & Y ( always put the jumper wire between Rh & Rc)
Sounds like a relay sticking. Possibly in the thermostat or possibly the furnace relay at the furnace. The next time it happens, unplug the thermostat from the wall. If the furnace still runs then it's the furnace relay.
the transformer may be installed remotely to the furnace or may be a part of the honeywell burner relay. if you connected the thing between the transformer secondary common and hot it will surely blow the transformer.
