Question about ASUS P4S8X-MX Motherboard

1 Answer

No sound I have a Asus P4v8x-x mb and I have sound only when listening to my Ipod library, but not when surfing the web. Also, I do not have windows sounds and I am unable to select a sound to listen to when in contol panel under sound scheme. The button to play the sound is there, but "grayed-out" and unable to be pressed. Soundmax came with the MB and I think I have update drivers.

Hello hassahabi, what I think happened to your sound is this. When the apple iTunes software installed you allowed iTunes to take over all your sound files within the system. To gain back your system sounds try this: Open windows Explorer & left click once on C:\
Once high-lighted, left click on Tools & left click the tab " File Types ". Scroll down the list to, WAV.
Left click once on WAV - wav sound. The sound file should open with Windows Media Player & not to ipod or iTunes. Click the, "Change" button. The "Open With", window will open. Find, Windows Media Player in the list. Left click once on it & than click OK. Most of windows sounds are located in the C:\Windows\Media folder. I suggest you also set MID to open with Windows Media Player.
Once finished close all opened windows & restart your system.
When windows finishes loading open the sound icon by first double left clicking the sound icon. Check that the wave slide bar is all the way up! Close that window. Now right click once on the sound icon & left click "Adjust Audio Properties". Sounds and Audio Devices Properties window will open.
See if the play button is no longer grayed out.
If it is grayed out you'll have no choice but to uninstall the apple software to free your system sounds.
Next round of ipod iTunes installation watch your screen's & choose not to allow iTunes to control, *.wav sound files.

Good luck hassahabi!

Asus p4v8x-x bad bios checksum checking for floopy floppy not found checking for cd-rom start reading P4V8X-X.ROM could not find P4V8X-X.ROM

Hi, you can download the bios file here:

http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=P4V8X-X&p=1&s=15

Please select your windows version.
Select bios and click on global for download.
You have to unzip the file before you install it.

You might have to change the cmos battery out with
a new one:

ghost2233_59.jpg So the bios can remember its settings.
Thats why you get a bad bios checksum.
A reminder flashing the bios with a wrong one WILL destroy the mainboard.

Re my Asus MB, P4V8X-X = - sound driver files lost, - why, how to recover ??

Go to asus's website, they have drivers for all of their motherboards including sound, Your hard drive could be going bad if the files just disappeared, if you cant find the drivers it would probably be cheaper to buy a 10$ sound card and bypass the issue rather then fixing the motherboard.

New sata harddisk not detected

The mother boards from that time you had to install the RAID drivers to use SATA drives. The drive disc which came with the mother board should have the drive, but I would suggest going to ASUS's web site and download the latest drivers. Click the link below, Select which OS (Operating System) you are using, Next click the little + box next to "IDE" and the drivers needed will be listed.
