I'll assume you had a display before you took it apart ?

How far did you take it apart? By AC port you mean the power pin? If thats the cas eyou had it totally apart?

When you try and start it now do you see the leds light up or change (POST test)?

Check to make sure the cable to the screen is in place. Often when you take these notebooks apart the cables become loose.

When connected to ac adaptor it will turn on and toshiba leading innovation appear, but after that no program will displayed, but when i disconnected to the ac adaptor the programs runs normally. the

This is strange.
I think your ac adapter power cord is bad. Get another one from ebay at: http://www.ebay.com

Just put in your computer's make and model, not the model of the battery in the ebay search.

For example: Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 AC Adapter

It might be your lcd screen's inverter, but it's strange. Anyway test the inverter by plugging in the ac adapter and when the screen goes blank try the steps below.

Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barely see the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves your video card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash light and nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card is bad.

My toshiba L35-S2161 the monitor only displays lines in colors, what to do to fix it

Since you diagnosed by using an external VGA monitor, you now know the fault lies in either the Video Cable, or the Display Assembly.

Your graphics chipset is good.
(Also known as GPU. Graphics Processing Unit )

A) Video Cable:
(Toshiba = LCD FL Cable )

See if the connections are good. Check the motherboard side connection of the Video Cable, AND the LCD screen side connection.

A loose connection can do this.

1) http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-L35/taking-apart-laptop-1.htm

2) http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-L35/remove-notebook-screen.htm

(On both links above you can click on the photos to enlarge )

Observe the sheath of the Video Cable for obvious signs of damage.
If the cable looks pinched, stretched, or torn, the tiny wires inside the cable may be damaged also.

Best method is to remove the Video Cable, and perform a continuity test of the wires inside the cable, with a multimeter.
(An economical unit can be purchased for around $8 to $12.
Analog or digital is fine )

B) Display Assembly:

Video Cable checks out OK;

1) Check the connections to the screen Inverter board.
Make sure they are tight. Make sure the Inverter board does not appear to be damaged.

2) Screen Inverter board:

Primer;
An LCD screen does not produce light. It needs an additional light source.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LCD_screen

A Backlight is the additional light source.
A Backlight is usually a CCFL, or a series of LED lights.

The Toshiba Satellite L35-S2161 Notebook PC, uses a CCFL for a Backlight. (Uses 1 CCFL)

CCFL stands for Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

(Average size is 2mm Thick, and is close to the width of the LCD screen in question, Long )

A screen Inverter converts the power (Electricity) from the laptop, for the Backlight and LCD screen.

It is located behind the Display Mask, (Display Bezel), and mounted towards the bottom of the LCD screen.

http://www.zkarlo.com/selected-zkarlo-part/inverter-board-p2215.php

A bad screen Inverter usually causes a garbled display, or doesn't light the Backlight up.

To test a screen Inverter you need a sensitive multimeter, or use a spare Backlight bulb that is known to be good.

Bulb lights up the Inverter is good, the Backlight in the LCD screen assembly, is bad.

[ The LCD screen is composed of layers. These layers are held in place by a metal Screen Frame. {Resembles a picture frame }

The Screen Frame comes apart.

Screws are removed, and the Screen Frame comes apart in four pieces, (Four sides), or the Screen Frame comes apart in two pieces as an Upper half, and Lower half.

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-L35/big/satellite-L35-screen-08.jpg

The Backlight bulb is taped to one side of the LCD screen layers, and is under that side of the Screen Frame.

The LCD screen layers MUST be kept aligned, as they were from the factory. For this reason alone, it is tedious for an experienced technician, and is usually not done at the consumer, or DIY level.

Hello,

Chances are the video cable became disconnected during your assembly. Recheck your cable and assemble the system carefully. Reboot.

You don't need to remove the LCD display even if it is not working, provided the video card is OK to use the Toshiba without its display.
Just connect a monitor to the video port on the Toshiba, then power up the monitot then boot up the Toshiba. The video data should automatically switch to the external monitor.

It looks like the bulb in the screen is burnt out. The screen is completely dark when fully chared.

You can determine if the bulb is bad by simply connect a monitor to the fifteen pin AGP port located at the side of your computer usually color blue. If your computer display the desktop on the monitor, you should change the bulb in your computer display. To change the backlight you need to follow these steps :Power off your Toshiba laptop and make sure the AC adapter is unplugged.
Remove the screws on the side of your laptop screen. Once the screws are removed, you can remove the plastic bezel (screen guard).
Pop the bezel out, exposing all of the LCD screen. Pull the LCD screen gently away from the computer by the corner. Be mindful that the screen is still connected to the computer by a ribbon cable.
Remove the tape over the ribbon cable where it connects to the screen, and gently pull the cable to disconnect it.
Turn the LCD face down, and remove the piece of tape that holds the top metallic foil against the back of the LCD.
Lift the metallic foil to expose the backlight. Remove the single screw at the end of it that holds it in place. Unclip the wire at the end of the backlight from the inverter (power source to the backlight), and remove it from the LCD. Replace it with the new backlight (available at any electronics store or online), and reassemble the device the same way you took it apart.

for A100 series, you can hook up the tv on your toshiba laptop through VGA port on S-video. you need to hook up the tv while the laptop is turned off. toggle the display by simply holding down the Fn button followed by the F5 button. and you need to set the mode on the tv as S-video. or you can go to display settings and set the tv as the secondary monitor. you can extend the display or do cloning.

Toshiba Satellite M35X-S161 - No Video

There are generic (well, platform-agnostic) and free utility programs e.g. indexed on VersionTracker, used for fan control (FanGUI, smartFan, etc.) and power management which should work without interfering terribly with that Toshiba utility. Even so, it's possible you'll need to take out a misbehaving power-saving daemon (using Task Manager or whatever.) That suggestion to fiddle with the sleep levels is reasonable; another component you might update or refresh to work in concert with those tools is the system BIOS, which sets the addresses for all those sensors where Toshiba's tools can get at 'em.
