Question about Bulova Watch

Cannot re-close Bulova watch after replacing battery

Had no problems opening back with small screwdriver. Got replacement battery, but now the back will not close and seal no matter how much pressure I use. Have made sure that back slot matches with place for stem. Help.

Geez, plenty of folks with the problem, but no solutions yet. I'm thinking that there's a jewelers tool that presses the back onto the watch body. I'll keep looking for a solution.

Not the answer I was hoping for, but apparently there is a "press" that jewelers use to reseal water resistent watches. There is a reference to it on this website:

W to changebattery #65041g

Changing the battery on most watches is fairly straightforward and needs only the usual tiny screwdriver, insulated tweezers and a large measure of patience and good eyesight.
The main problem is usually opening the case and in the case of a quality watch that is guaranteed waterproof it really should be returned to the manufacturer for battery fitting and pressure testing. If testing isn't carried out after the case has been opened the watch realistically then becomes merely water resistant rather than waterproof.

Usually it is the back of the watch case that must be opened and in the case of ordinary non-waterproof and non-water resistant types it is a simple matter to prise the back off with a thin blade and then refit it with finger pressure.
Water-resistant watch cases that have a priseable back often need the back pressing back on with force supplied either by a purpose-made press or a large bench vice. In both cases adapters are needed to prevent damage to the case and the crystal.

A lot of watches have a back that unscrews and strictly a dedicated key, wrench or spanner is needed for this task. I have managed to overcome this problem a number of times by pressing other tools "that look as if they might do the job" into service. I cannot say what it was I used as I wandered around my workshop just trying things. I think the last time a particular circlip plier did the trick.

Simpler to take the watch and have someone else replace the battery I think.

This is how I replaced the battery on my Casio 1572 A168 watch.

1- Undo the 4 screws to remove the back cover. Note the correct orientation for reassembly by observing the writing.
2- Gently pry out the mechanism.
3- Undo the 6 clips round the circumference of the mechanism with a pin or watchmakers screwdriver. The top half should come loose. There is also a 7th clip which can be more easily unclipped from underneath. Replace the battery.
4- Note the correct position of the small spring. This spring is necessary to make the watch speaker work.
5- Note from the picture the correct position of the special contact which connects with the lower board. If this does not connect properly then the display will disappear.

6- With the battery in place, the watch display should work properly. If there is a problem try connecting the two all clear contacts with a screwdriver, paper clip or small piece of wire to reset the watch.

7- Reassemble the watch and make sure the rubber seal is in place. The seal on my watch was slightly deformed so I used a very small amount of silicone sealant on the tip of a screwdriver to tack it down properly.

8- Put on the back cover being careful not to overtighten the 4 screws and damage the threads. The cover needs to be positioned correctly and not 180 degrees in reverse so the spring will connect with the correct place. When you look at the front and back of the watch the writing should be the same way round.
Kind regards

*Looking at the picture it might also be possible to replace the battery by removing just the one clip that is closer to the spring. However I found that that clip is more easily undone from underneath, so I preferred to do a more complete dismantling. This also gives more freedom to reposition the battery.

I have a Steinhausen TW524L Watch how do i change the battery or is this watch automatic it has stopped running.

It's not as easy as popping off the back like some watches to replace the battery. The 4 screws on the top bezel are not the ones to remove. Look at the back side of the watch and you'll see 4 really tiny pinholes. You'll need a jewelers screwdriver small enough to fit into the holes to remove the 4 screws. Once you do that, the two halves of the watch come apart with a little pressure. It takes a little prying to get the case to separate. Once you do that, you'll see the battery. Be careful with the waterproof gasket as you'll need to put that back in the same position to keep the case sealed. The gasket is really delicate. You might consider taking it to a watch maker to change out the battery if you don't have the tiny (and I mean really tiny) screwdriver to remove the 4 back screws.

I have a Fossil Limited Ed. Mr. Spock watch with a starship that circles the dial as a second hand. I cannot figure out how to get the back off the watch to change the battery. There are no slots, screws...

It can probably be removed by using a small screwdriver between the back and the body and twisting while applying pressure.

Be careful to avoid stabbing yourself when the screwdriver slips (as it will) - used strong gloves!

A word of warning, one of the cries I see on this site is "how do I get the back on again".

The best option is to take the watch to a jewelers to replace the battery for you - doing it yourself can be more trouble than it is worth, especially if seals are involved.

How do you change battery for casio 1174 CMD-40?

I like these little RC IR watches. They're great fun!!! For this tutorial, you will need....
  • A small Phillips heads screw driver
  • A pin (or needle)
  • A replacement CR2032 battery
Instructions :
  1. Remove the 4 screws from the back of the watch
  2. Carefully remove the back plate, do not damage the delicate rubber seal
  3. Carefully remove the delicate rubber seal
  4. Use the pin to remove the small rubber block from the battery cover clasp.
  5. The pin should then be inserted in the gap of the white plastic lug, where the rubber block was removed.
  6. Use the pin to gently pull back the clasp of the battery cover.
  7. The battery cover will then open with a 5mm gap approx. It does not need to be removed.
  8. Use the screwdriver to remove the battery.
  9. After the battery has been replaced, just follow the instructions backwards.
I hope this little tutorial has helped.

How iI open a casio 705 woman watch?

Thank you for contacting FixYa.
You will need:
  • A jeweler's screwdriver- Either flat head or Philips, depending on the model of watch.
A cup or small box-This is to hold any screws.
  • How to change a Casio watch battery:
    1. Spread a cloth over your work area The cloth will help you avoid damaging the finish on your watch.
    2. If necessary, remove the watch band Removing the band gives you easier access to the back plate.
    3. Remove the back plate For some models this means using a screwdriver to gently pry it open, and others require removing screws. Keep small screws in a container to avoid losing them!
    4. Take note of the rubber seal Sometimes they need to be reinstalled in the same orientation. You might even want to use a marker to make a small "match mark" before removing it.
    5. Locate the battery It looks like a small metal button.
    6. Remove the battery You might need to loosen (not remove) a small screw and slide a latch out of the way. For other models, it's as simple as popping open a strap that is stretched across the cell.
    7. Install the new battery Make sure it's in the same orientation as the old one. They usually go in with the positive (+) side down.
    8. Perform a reset Do this by touching one tip of the tweezers to the AC contact, inside the watch, and the other tip to the back of the watch battery.
    9. Make sure the watch is working properly Carefully lift the watch to do this. Don't turn it over or the watch movement might fall out.
    10. Reassemble and seal the watch Perform steps one through four in reverse order to reassemble your watch.
    Best regards. Jewel

I just need to replace the battery, how do I open the back, does it twist off or snap off.

Some are twist or snap off..We get so many that are pressure back cover.Sometimes it can be done with a knife and there is a small hindge where you can snap it off with a knife so easy but the problem will be putting it back on because you have to snap it back on with pressure and it can only be done with a machine. If it is a twist that should be easy, all you do is put both thumbs around the lid and press and twist to the right and it should open. This lid should close tight after you put the battery or the water will get into the watch and damage the watch mechanism.

Timex Men's Digital Expedition Chrono Alarm Timer Watch battery

please follow the steps to change the battery
    1. Step 1 Make sure the little arrow on the back is aimed to the right. Then, insert a small flat head screwdriver into the notch on the edge, and lever the back open. Place the back to one side.
    2. Step 2 Unscrew the clip holding the battery (if your model has a clip), and remove the battery.
    3. Step 3 Use plastic tweezers to put in a new battery. Do not directly touch the new battery. Screw the clip (if it has one) back on.
    4. Step 4 Replace the gasket that seals the watch. Then lightly coat the gasket with a silicone-based grease.
    5. Step 5 Align the back with the little arrow aimed to the right again, then carefully press the watch between two pieces of wood that are being held by a small vise, until the back seats itself.
    thank you....

I can't seem to remove the back casing on my Bulova watch in order to replace the battery.

If you take a small scredriver (one that is used to repair eyeglasses) and run it gently around the rim of the back, you will feel a slight indentation where you can insert the screwdriver to open up the back. The battery is easily accesible but then it's tough to get the back back on!
