I have a Philips 60PW9383 rear projection HDTV monitor...the picture won't go on, just happened...no storms or surges etc...is there a fuse that could have blown?

this is for a rear projection tv, NOT A CELLPHONE

how likely is it that a fuse blew out????

have never had trouble with the set, no surges or storms etc...it just happened!

  • davidkch Nov 12, 2008

I did hear a "pop" moments after I turned on the power, not loud, sounded like a speaker connection noise...would a fuse blowing have a popping sound?

Chance of fuse to be blown .

Fuse blows up when there is low voltage or high voltage as input power supply .

Bad solder joints and faulty capacitor can also cause this problem .

There could be many problems causing this error. 1) try to unplug the device and replug after 5 minutes.do this 3- 4 times some times this resets the device. 2)may be u r right the fuse could be blwn.as if there is power short circuit the first thing to blow on the power supply board is fuse that blows.as to avoid further damage to the main board. 3)if there is a major short circuit the capacitors or the ics on the board also can be blown. this can be repaired manually but if u have proper technical knowledge .but very risky if done without proper knowledge. call in a tech is much advisable for safety purpose. and this problem is mostly  repairable. thanks.

if the capacitor blows it does that noise.
get your board checked to locate the exact problem.
    thanks.

1. Try this - hold the menu button down for 10 seconds. TV should power up; you will have to turn off front panel buttons on menu.

2. You can also try a hard reset: Unplug TV from AC mains and remove all cables from TV. Wait about 30 minutes and re-plug to AC power and redo the cabling. Switch on the TV and see if it works..

3. Powering down the set or putting it in standby may have allowed the power supply to cool. Weak capacitors often go out of spec when they cool, thus preventing a section of the power supply from firing up properly again. There is a simple trick...just warm the back of the TV with a hair dryer for 5-7 mins after you have unplugged the TV. Look for the little areas of holes in the back panel of TV. Use these as your guide at where to use the hairdryer, but don't hold the dryer too close (say 5-6inches away). (Make sure the dryer is on High heat). If the TV doesn't turn on after you have heated it up (like it tries to come on but then turns off) you need to unplug the TV again, this resets it. And repeat those steps till it works. Resetting the TV after it fails to turn on is the key.

4. A circuit board may crack about some of the larger components mounted on it. Try the slap test – Hit the TV firmly on the side. If there is any change in the picture, it could indicate a possible solder problem / connections. You can inspect the PCB's for fractures, and then repair them. It may also be poor soldering that has failed. I would be checking for these things first.

If all fails, then best get a repairman to come and fix your TV.

Yes..it could produce the sound. But only a manual inspection can confirm this. You should find the fuse at the bottom right on the back of your TV behind a small panel.

Thats the classis sign that the CRT coolant needs replacement to restore the picture quality. You can get the Phillips CRT coolant kit from www.tvrepairworld.com which contains the coolant for the three CRTs plus the CD with instructions.

My television quit working after a storm, it wasn't even turned on during the storm. the power on the set and remote does nothing. but it makes a sound when plugged in like it is turning on then nothing...

Ok, this was a direct hit in this case and you will defiantly need to replace the power supply board in this unit. the first thing that will happen during a direct hit is, the surge will run threw the power cord and travel threw the entire power supply circuitry, frying all circuits. this includes the main mother board as well. I recommend replacing the mother board and power supply board as well. this will restore your set to its original operational value. The mother board is commonly called the main control board.

please rate and god bless:)

The tv no doubt experienced a surge which has caused a problem in the power/deflection circuits. this is better left to an experienced TV tech, unless your skilled with diagnosing electronics with high voltages that are normally present in the deflection circuits. let me know if you need further assistance.

Philips 46PP9302 46 in. Rear projection -

The power supply section is not working.
Common possibilities are:
- Convergences amps have failed overloading the supply
- High-voltage section (flyback transformer) has failed
(happens sooner or later, about 8 years typical))
- CRT tube has failed overloading the supply
- Power surge has popped the power input circuit.
(Fuse, rectifier diodes, turn-on relay etc)
- One of a hundred of electrolytic capacitors has failed short overloading the supply. They dry out with age, are cheap to replace, but hard to find which one it is.
- Or any of many other possibilities.

In short, you need a experianced tech to troubleshoot this.
