By mistake I clicked on progressive scan from menu > video. The screen is all black since then and I can only hear sound, cannot view any picture except for VIDEO on left top corner of my screen. I have tried unplugging the unit, plus the TV. I have unhooked all the componets and then plugged it all back in. I have tried hitting the 1 key and it still gives me a black screen and no sound. I hit the menu and it will not come up. this is a DVD/VCR combo and it will not allow me to go to the VCR. Any other ideas

Thought this might be of help to others, here is the solution direct from Phillips and it worked

    1. Disconnect the power cord from the power

    supply.

2 While holding down the D.DUBBING button

on the front panel, connect the power cord to

the power supply. The current time will appear

on the display panel. Continue to hold the

D.DUBBING button for 15 seconds and press

STANDBY ON y button on the front panel.

The display screen will show PHILIPS and

    READING CO2.

Hi,

Initially, try the unplug for an extended period of time, say an hour or even more. Additionally, postback the brand/model number, visually inspect the front panel controls and/or the rear of the DVD/VCR combo for a possible hard switch or button for the PScan, PS or Progressive Scan Mode.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Turn the unit on, until you see the "progressive scan" screen. Hold down the "stop" button for 10 seconds and the unit should reset to standard DVD play.

Let me know how it goes.

Sorry, missing link, here you get the instructions from techman,
    I quote:

"Most RCA and GE TV sets use a four digit code to control the v-chip.
The code reset procedure is different depending on the model. Try each
method until you find one that works:

    Hold down MENU on the
remote and VOLUME DOWN on the TV it?s self at the same time for at
least 4 seconds. The set won't say so, but the lock will be unlocked

    Hold
down the 0 on the remote and the VOLUME DOWN buttons on the TV its self
at the same time for at least 4 seconds. The set won't say so, but the
    lock will be unlocked

Hold down the MENU button on the front of the TV and the TV button on the remote at the same time for at least 4 seconds.
Hold down GO BACK on the remote and MENU on the front of the TV at the same time for at least 4 seconds.

Hold down EJECT on the front of the TV and the MENU button on the remote at the same time for at least 4 seconds.

    Depending
on the model, one of the methods should unlock the V-chip. Now, if
desired, you can change the settings on the V-chip by going to the MENU
and going to PARENTAL CONTROLS, or on some sets, going to MENU and then
going to TV SETUP, then to V-CHIP SET."

You need to reset the unit to factory settings. Try pushing each button on the unit for about 10 seconds. Specially check the stop button for a while.

    hope this will help
    Thanks

HOWEVER, I believe on this unit, the progressive scan comes only when
you connect to the outputs for component video and it gives you
progressive scan automatically. If you don't want progressive scan,
move the cables over to the video composite output.

Accidentally switching to PAL and getting a rolling black & white picture happens all the time to baffle users, especially on models with a System or P/N key on the remote. To get back your color and sound just switch to the proper system in the menu or put in a movie of the correct type and it can switch automatically or try the procedure below for resetting to the defaults.

Sometimes owners will accidentally switch to Progressive Scan in the menu then get no picture at all. You can fix the no picture condition on the CH-300 by resetting the defaults to interlaced as mentioned in the users manual:

"To reset the VIDEO OUTPUT, turn Off the player, turn back On,  open the disc tray and press and hold the Stop button on the player for 10 seconds to reset the scan mode."

The Reset procedure doesn't seem to work on all versions but you can sometimes get a usable B&W picture allowing you to get to the menu and change the settings by connecting the composite video input of your display to the Red Pr/Cr or Green Y component output jacks on the rear of the cabinet.

  • mmechanics Nov 12, 2008

You can also go into the Menu and set it blind with the following key presses on the Remote:
    1. With the unit Stopped, press Setup.
    2. Press Enter.
    3. Press the Down Arrow 3 times.
    4. Press the Right Arrow Once.
    5. Press Enter.

On 300Z & 300ZS models if the video is set to Progressive Scan and you can't get a viewable picture on the Red or Green jacks try going into the Menu blind and changing it back with the following key presses on the Remote:
    1. With the unit stopped, press Setup on the remote.
    2. Press the Right Arrow Once.
    3. Press Enter.
    4. Press the Down Arrow 2 times.
    5. Press Enter.
    6. Press the Up Arrow 2 Times.
    7. Press Enter. This should switch it back to Interlaced scan with S-Video and Composite output.
To change the Parental Control setting on the CH-300 use the factory password of 3351.  For the CH-400 use 1379.

Try getting the Green component output and put it on the Yellow composite input. Your picture should be black and white. Then you can see the video to change the resolution back to where you need it. Hope this helps.

PROGRESSIVE LIGHT WAS SET BY MISTAKE, AND IT HAS BEEN SET ON AUTO HOW CAN I SOLVE THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE'S ONLY A BLACK SCREEN AND SOUNDS THAT COMES ON.

According to the operating instructions (page 97), Progressive Scan can be cancelled (or turned off) by pressing and holding PAUSE (on the main unit) continuously for 5 - 10 seconds, until the progressive indicator goes out, or turning it off in the setup menu. Your recorder should now be back to normal interlace video output. I recommend that you check your setup menu after this procedure to make sure nothing 'AUTO' is set, that shouldn't be set, and subsequently turning off any function that isn't required.

DVD player wont show picture

to turn it off select connection method 3 above and progressive scanning mode, to set the mode, set progressive to off in the display menu so that the p scan indicator light on the front panel goes out. do all of this in interface mode. you can also do this by pressing and holding PLAY > on the front of the unit for more than 5 seconds, still watch for the p scan indicator to go off. this works best when the unit is connected directly to the television.
