Compaq 1701 Flat Panel Monitor Powers Up but screen is blank

I have a compaq 1701 monitor and when the computer is on you can barely see the windows xp screen in the background. It looks blank but if you are seating right in front of it you can see the background. Does this monitor have sleep mode or something?

I am using a compaq 1701 flat panel monitor. I installed windows Xp. The screen resolution is $4 bit color coz the driver is not installed. Looking for the driver for compaq 1701 flat panel monitor for...

The screen resolution and bit color is controlled by the video driver NOT by a driver for the monitor.
Install the correct video driver for your video card and you will be able to increase the screen resolution to over 1024 X 768 and bit color to at least 32 bits.

My monitor boots up with a white screen only

Could be video card, cable or malfunction in the monitor, try another monitor to eliminate at least the possibility of it being a graphics card issue, thereafter, check connections from the computer to the monitor, if that fails, I'd suggest taking to a TV repairman

Compaq 1701 monitor blank screen

If you plan to DIY repair, please read below and look at the pictures so you will know what to look for.

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Hi, I have a Compaq 1701 monitor and the video signal is missing, but you can see the background; the system (Pentium 4) and the VGA cable are OK; no OSD; please help me!

The fluorescent lamp has failed.
The LCD monitor has a "backlight" in order to illuminate the video images that you see.
It may be too costly to repair, since it may break again after repair.
New LCD monitors start at just under $100.

Quick fix, if you are brave:
With an open palm (not the PDA), whack the side of the monitor gently or not so gently to see if it works.
If so, you can either replace the monitor or put up with a sore palm.

Viewsonic VE175b Monitor Powers Up Doesn't Display Windows OS

Hi; I had the same problem. I know that sometimes devices require you to perform some type of '10-30 second' "hold" of one or some of its buttons in order to 'reset' the device, so to speak. So, having said that, try this:

1) Turn your monitor off (no green light) but leave it plugged in.
2) Leave it off for about 10 seconds.
3) Hold the [2] button on your monitor (the one to the immediate LEFT of your monitor's POWER button).
4) While holding the [2] button, now press and HOLD your POWER button.
5) Wait for your image to appear and STAY onscreen for about 5 seconds, then release both buttons.
6) Your monitor should retain its onscreen image.

Hope this helps! Good Day to all!

Compaq 1701 flat panel monitor

You have a bad set of capacitors on the power board. If you have little to no electrical knowledge then I can't advise strongly enough to take it to your local TV repair shop.
The repair is not expensive and will save your life and your sanity.

Hope it helps =)
