Question about Honeywell Air Conditioners

1 Answer

Purchased VisionPRO 8000 series model TH810U1003 digital programmable thermostat from Amazon on line to replace my old analog. My furnace company maintenance person was unable to get into the installation menu. It was not installed. Later, I managed to get into the installation menu and set the date and time but not all of the installation menu was available to me. I called Honeywell Support and they would not tell me how to get to the hidden installation menu items. They told me I would have to hire a contractor to install it. My furnace is a simple two wire system and I can install the thermostat since I already know which terminals to hook it up to. The furnace guy said to beware of some of the installation menu items that I can't get to. How do I see and adjust the hidden installation menu items for this thermostat?

The stats come with installer set up instructions inside the box. always do! i have used them always to program stat. go to a home store and as to look at a stat and see the instructions. find the installer setup info and make a copy. there are up to 100 options on many of these, and the default setting should be used if in doubt on many. i always leave the installer set up and the homeowner directions with the homeowner and for my future use. you may try to call honeywell and ask them to fax you the installer setup directions. many of thier guys can't even tell you how to remove the cover on a stat. some are quit good.

Why is screen showing EE and will not respond to touch?

The replacement batteries could be defective or installed incorrectly. Also, the thermostat could have been reinstalled incorrectly after battery replacement.

My gas furnace and heat pump runs at the same time???

its likely the outside control unit board its supposed to only kick on gas only when the temp is at freezing..
or
the inside thermostat is not selected for heat pump, open it an look at the jumper / switch.
or just replace the thermostat , then return it saying you couldnt figure it out. :P
there are a lot more variables here after that you cant know how to check.

Want to replace a T874R1434 thermostat with aux heat with a visionpro th8000. Have a blue wire connected to the B terminal on old thermostat and what looks like a brown wire connected to the X terminal on...

Its kinda difficult to know exactly what the wires could go to considering its all in the way the technician decided to hook them up and everybody has different ideas. I can tell you the most common use of the colors and see if that helps. Depending on how many wires your system has,
Red=Power
White=Heat
Yellow=Cooling/AC
Green=Fan
Blue=Common/Ground
Brown=Heat

Black and Orange wires alternate a lot with different HVAC techs, but usually go to a heat pump system outside.

The best way to get a grip on what wires go where is to look inside the furnace and see where they go. If you have a electrical board, it gets a lot easier, and the back of the furnace door usually has wiring diagrams that are pretty up front about the wiring. Just keep in mind that the wires could have been changed from the thermostat to the furnace, but you can usually tell if the wires seem different. Hope this helps some and good luck!

Programmable thermostat

Basically, your going to press either of the arrows until it flashes, or about 1 second.

Then you set the temperature you desire and then press and hold the HOLD button until HOLD is displayed in the display.

Congrats, your on a permanent hold.

Then your next step would be to go get a real thermostat, install it on the wall, and then throw that piece of **** Hunter out the window as hard as you can.

The biggest problem with the Hunter stats is that they are cheap. On top of that, the programmable stats have a factory set program that cannot be simply deleted. Its always there, no matter what you do. And it makes for hassles when it goes back to factory settings and you either have to painstakingly re-program it or deal with the factory settings.

Here is a link to the Hunter manual.

I would recommend to you the Honeywell line-up. The Visionpro 8000 series is a very nice and user friendly thermostat. Its the same one I have on my wall. Very easy to use and understand. Its touchscreen and the screen can be locked to avoid unwanted use of the system.

I have a Rheem Gas Furnace with an old analog thermostat (Wires conneected to terminals R and 4 for the thermostat). I went to install a Rheem digital and programmable thermostat and it indicated that it...

if you have 2 wire at thermostat Terminals at furnace that the thermostat wire attach to should be R & W if your new thermostat has R & W terminals is should work, an easy thing to remember is the red wire on R the white wire on W. If 4 wire at thermostat at furnace green on G, Blue on Y, red on R,and white on W same at thermostat If these do not match find a thermostat with these terminals

Manual Thermostat replcaement with Programmable Digital unit.

Hopefully there are markings on the old t-stat as to what terminal is what.
on the honeywell 8000 use the heat pump labeling and then the standard wiring would be
R- red
AUX-white
Y- yellow
B- O/B
C- black
G- green
There should not be a bare wire, it probably just has the insulation stripped back way too far.
You should probably open the furnace and compare the terminal label in the furnace to the wire color. normally yellow and blue pass through the furnace and are wire nutted to wires going to the outdoor unit. In the furnace the white wire will connect to the w or w1 terminal. also, you will need to set the Honeywell stat to have the following parameters.
170-7
190-1
200-0
other parameters that I did not specify, you may read the manual and make your own decision but I recommend factory settings for the other parameters
