Question about Dell Inspiron 5160 Notebook

1 Answer

Can not connect wirelessly

I had to replace my hard drive, and the only thing that doesn't work now is my wireless card. I can connect hard wire, but when I go to my device manager, it says that "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver."

When I try and reinstall the drivers, it doesn't work.
Any help would be greatly appeciated.

Thanks for that info about Dell. I forgot to write that I have already downloaded all of the drivers from the dell website. I tried calling Dell Support, and after speaking with 5 different people, I was told that I would have to pay $60 (one time fee) for someone to help me. I told them that I would search the internet for a while before paying the $$.

So if I can't get the fix from Dells support page, is there anyone who has another thought?

    Thanks

    Bob

Go to www.support.dell.com and select "I'm looking for drivers and downloads". If you don't have the proper version of Adobe you will be prompted to install it. Once installed return to "drivers and downloads" and enter the "service tag", (serial number) of the laptop. Dell keeps a listing of drivers for every customer's computer they sell. Look under “Network” to download drivers.

WHY DOESN`T MY HP,LAPTOP.CONNECT TO WIRELES TRANSMITER.

Make sure you didn't disturb the wireless card inside the laptop. Check the connections for the wireless card antennas (usually a gray wire and black wire). Also some laptops have a little on and off switch, to turn on and off the wireless. Please make yours is on. I've had a few clients with the same problem and turned out the switch was accidentally turned off. Good luck

'is a wireless card and a wireless network card the same thing?'
answer:- yes they mean the same device, just a different way of referring to it.
'Is this both hardware AND software?'
answer:- no, it's just the hardware.

Also, have you typed in the security code from the router (the WEP key) if not sure, google 'wep key'

Wireless adaptor broken!?

Alot of times you can go into the properties of your wireless card and clear from the list all the access points you have connected to recently and in the past and it will help. Also check to be sure the wireless card is turned on.I've found that internal wireless cards tend to fail after a while due to heat and use.I would replace the card if clearing it of it's memory doesn't work. Also check to make sure that both antenna's are connected properly to the card in case they came loose.I tend to think the card is bad though.

My wireless connection is not working on my inspiron, what should i do?

Cheapest steps first, getting more progressively expensive as the list progresses:

1) Upgrade the BIOS for the system, available at support.dell.com
2) Upgrade the chipset drivers to the latest version, same website.
3) Upgrade the wireless card drivers to the latest version, same website.
4) Re-set the wireless antennas. Usually you can access the WLAN mini-PCI card at the bottom of the systems. It will have two small wires connected to it, one white and one black wire.
5) Re-seat the wireless card. It's like a large RAM SO-DIMM chip, snap-in and out.
6) Perform a system restore (hopefully it doesn't come to that)
7) Re-install windows

More expensive:
8) Replace the WLAN card.
9) Replace the system board.

Sometime ago, i had accidentally dropped my lappy on the ground, causing the hard drive to malfuction. i later replaced the laptop's hard drive but now, its wireless LAN dont work properly. i mean i can...

First check if its a drivers issue.. Unistall the drivers and reinstall the latest drivers from the support website of tashiba... Then try to take the WLAN and reinsert it.. Try to get all the wireless networks again and try to connect.. If the issue is not fixed you may have to replace the WLAN card....

Sounds like the wireless might be connecting at a lower bandwidth than the wired. The wired connection is usually 100Mbs, but the wireless can very from 10Mbs and lower to 135Mbs (802.11N) and higher. I would see what type of wireless card your current one is and possibly get an newer one, depending on the your current wireless card.
