Question about Microsoft HP Pavilion DV6276US Notebook PC

4 Answers

Laptop does a long beep, followed by two short beeps.

Laptop : HP Pavilion Entertainment PC dv2000t

When I turn it on, the monitor is blank, and after three seconds, three beeps occur, one long beep, followed by two short ones. The monitor stayed blank after this and nothing else happens.

If it was a video card failure, I'd like a step by step guide of taking apart my laptop safely and repair it. I have some screwdrivers, other special tools and a grounding strap. If it was other hardware or RAM that failed, I'd like to know exactly how to fix them as well.

My wife has a HP Pavaillion Entertainment pc. There seems to be a problem with the black plastic that goes around the screen. It is unsnapping and it starts with the hinge.

    Has anyone seen this?

    Thanks

I have a HP Pavilion laptop having the same problem. I had this same problem more than half a year ago and I went to the HP service center for an expensive repair with 2 months warranty. It did worked but the problem went back.

I agree with changing Rams...but this is a common problem for these models..i think Hp is running a program for some models to be replaced on these issues...i suggest you inquire bout that

or be prepared to change the main board..

Hope Ram idea works for you!

Explanation: The BIOS is unable to access the video system in order to write any error messages to the screen.
Diagnosis: This is usually caused by a problem with the video card, or the memory on the video card. It can also be a motherboard issue.
Recommendation:
Troubleshoot the video card.
If the video card is not at fault, troubleshoot the motherboard.
The video is built onto the motherboard. And without schematics, which HP does not provide, you have to change out the motherboard.
Laptops are complex and difficult to take apart if you have never done it. I would search for a knowledgeable and trustworthy tech to repair it for you.Put your zip code in the box below the "Repair Service" box on the right column on the FixYa page to find a tech nearby.
If you feel that you can do it, check this site out:

3 Beeps: Base 64K RAM failure
Explanation: There is a failure of some sort within the first 64 KB of system memory.
Diagnosis: The first bank of memory probably has a bad memory chip in it somewhere. I would suggest trying a different stick of memory.

HP - One long two short beeps

first I highly recommend you to go to HP website and search out possible answers - it may be a known problem to them. Secondly try connecting your laptop to an external monitor to see if there is any display there. If you do get external display it is likely the LCD (display) on your laptop that is bad. If you don't get anything it likely is the video card. These are not easy to replace yourself - you need to take it to a tech.

HP DV2000, one long beep followed by two short beeps...doesnt boot up. after repeated attempts, finally got one solution (sounds silly though), but works everytime for me. i plugged power supply and kept...

Hello there yog26.

Those beeps you hear are a trouble report your BIOS is trying to tell you about in the only language she knows.

1 long, 2 short beeps indicate the following pre-scripted error message:

"Video adapter error: Either video adapter is bad or is not seated properly. Also, check to ensure the monitor cable is connected properly."
  • The "video adapter" is the physical device (aka card).
  • "not seated properly" means connecting cable(s) are not full-in connected.
Corrective actions will require opening case and physically inspecting connections, and if still troubled, swapping out the video card with a "known good" one to test.

If that is beyond your geek-ability, it's PC tech repair time.

Good luck, and please do post back ...
  • to let me (and interested others) know how things worked out,
  • to provide clarification or feedback,
  • if you have ANY further questions.

Blank screen long beep 2 short beeps at startup.

The 1 long 2 short beep code means a problem in the video circuitry and the laptop can't initialize the display. This is usually caused by failure of the integrated video chipset. Unfortunately, on a laptop you can't just open the case and install a new video card like you can on a desktop. You need to replace the mainboard. Replacements are available online. Here is one source found by a Google search. (I'm just using this as an example. I haven't dealt with this site.)

The 4 beep code means no memory detected when the computer started up. No surprise there since you had taken it out.

Laptop does a long beep, followed by two short beeps.

One long followed by two short beep IS a video error. However, your model laptop does not have a separate video card. The only fix is to replace the mother board. Here is the service manual that will show you how to take apart the laptop and even give you the part number you would need to replace the motherboard.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.

I have a HP Pavillion DV 2000 laptop with me. When i boot my system it gives 1 long beep followed by two short beeps and the system doesnt boot. I am not sure as what to do. Can someone help me here?

This website:
http://www.pchell.com/hardware/beepcodes.shtml

Lists standard beep codes for computers. The one long, followed by two short beeps indicates a display problem according to the site.

I have heard other people say that the same beep codes specify a RAM problem.

Have you recently installed any new RAM or a new graphics card, or made changes to either.

It seems likely to be the graphics card because of the missing info on the screen. Usually when RAM is bad there is something on the screen.
