Re: Handle Replacement

Catriver is correct as far as he goes, but the real problem is getting the plastic handle onto the switch assembly. There must be a 'trick' to this but it eluded me and a trained repair technician so we used pliers and brute force. It should be noted that the plastic handle has been modified since the original. There are now metal reinforcements in the hinge pivot, which was the bit that broke off on the original without the metal strengthening. Suggestions for the correct assembly of the handle and switch will still be welcome.

Re: Handle Replacement

You are going to have to remove the inside panel and get it from the inside. There should be 11 tork screws on the inner panel. Before lifting it away, disconnect the wires from the vent and dispensor wax motor. The latch assy will can now be removed from the inside. If you take your time and observe, it should be a piece of back.

How do I replace handle/plastic cover on Fisher and Paykel soft touch 913t dishwasher?

Not sure if you have tried to refer to the parts manual itself which shows how the parts are assembled together. In particular page 8 which shows the handle assembly part 18. I am assuming this is what you are replacing. Or is it just part 21 which is the plastic latch recess cover.

Amana ADB1200AWQ model dishwasher, built -in, bought replacement part for broken door lock handle. Any idea as to steps to replace it?

Just replace my door latch handle for the 4th time in 6 years. its very easy,,, you have the same as i do. latch and handle assembly i got from amana parts on the internet, # for part is W10130697. it is the same i think as a whirlpool part. call 877-827-5003 to order about 48 bucks. very easy to fix. Open dishwasher door and take out the tork screws ,you will see the latch with the 2 micro swithes on both sides, black on the right and white wires on the left. pull off the plugs , put the new door latch assembly in place and put the two plug bacl on micro switches, put back in all the tork scews and your set to go.... good luck... it is real easy.

Have a maytag dishwasher MDB6600 AWQ -latch/handle broke - bought replacement but not sure how to install - can you help

Just did this myself .Need the right star screw driver to remove 11 screws holding the door inner liner
then you can access the handle latch assembly. You pull off the 2 wire connectors to the switchs that are part of the assembly. Slip connectors onto new assembly.Position the handle part thru the door and re attach inner liner. 2 of the inner liner top screws also hold the assembly in place.Unfortunely , this didn't solve my problem of the dishwasher not turning on.

How do you safely replace the handle on this MDB7600A dishwasher

Easy job. You'll need a new "latch assembly". I found one at for $18+ and $7 shipping. Part #W10130695. More $ elsewhere. Procedure: Remove torx head screws on 3 sides of the door, then pull the interior part of the door away from the exterior a few inches at the top of the door. The old latch assembly (and the broken handle, now separate) can now be accessed easily. There are two wire connectors press fit to the latch assembly switches. Use a screwdriver if necessary to pry them off the old assembly, which is probably corroded somewhat. Do this one at a time and replace on the corresponding terminals of the new latch assembly so the wires don't get switched (or else mark them before removal.) Reposition the latch assembly, push the two halves of the door back together and replace the screws. Done. I'll note that the latch is positioned but not secured by two pairs of thin plastic "fingers" molded into the back of the control panel. Three of four fingers had sheared off. I didn't feel like spending $70 to $130 for a new control panel so decided to try doing without. The latch is secured by the two center screws at the top of the door, so as long as those are tight it should be fine.

Handle is broken.. how to replace?

This is not a difficult repair. If the model number you have this listed under is correct, all you should have to do is follow these steps:

1. Turn off the power breaker, or unplug the dishwasher.

2. Open the dishwasher door and locate the screws around the perimeter of the inner door panel. These are torx, size T-2, I believe. Remove the screws directly behind the control panel and only loosen the remaining ones. This will enable you to remove only the control panel without having to remove the entire front panel facing.

3. If only the handle is broken, all you have to do is remove the the screws holding the latch assembly in place and lift out of the way. The door handle should lift out from the rear and a new one can easily be inserted.

4. If the latch assembly is broken, I would recommend replacing the small switches that plug into the latch assembly as well. They typically break when attempting to unplug the wires from the terminals, because they are so fragile. has all the parts you need, along with some excellent exploded view diagrams you can use for reference. The parts that I am talking about are items 3, 4, and 5 under the "Control Panel" heading.

Item 3 is the Door Handle
Item 4 is the Door Switch
Item 5 is the Latch Assembly

Here are some more sites you may also try for cost comparison:

If you have questions about this repair, or if the model number is not correct, please post back with your complete model number so that I may be able to provide you with better assistance. I hope you find this information helpful.

Maytag MDBH950AWB handle/latch failed.

Replaced handle/latch unit. Killed power to the unit. Removed the inside door panel then unplugged the two switches on the latch. Removed old latch with broken handle (removing inside panel frees latch/handle). Installed new latch with handle reconnected the two switches, reinstalled inside door panel. Very simple. Note: Latches can be purchased with or without the handle. Less expensive to buy with the handle already installed on the latch.

Broken maytag door latch assembly Maytag quiet series 300: the latch is not working, door is closed and cannot open, seems something snapped inside, how can I open the door ? and change the broken part ?

To open this latch, the handle works as a lever to push inward when you push up on the handle. If your handle if broken, it has probably ceased to work as a lever (the pivot pins have likely broken). You want to push in on the handle to open the latch, ideally toward the bottom of the handle opening. Once you get the latch open, you'll likely want to order a replacement (here is one source : ). Remember to turn off the power to the dishwasher, and you'll need a star head driver to remove the screws from the inside of the door to access and replace the latch.

Dishwasher door latch

I just had this problem (or should I say, finally had the time to deal with it). Google searches revealed different ways to get the door open including repairmen with crowbars (causing replacement of the entire control assembly $$$), having to back out the top screws that hold the dishwasher in place (and to the top of the counter) with pliers, then moving the dishwasher out from the counter.

Nuts to all that.

First things first. Turn OFF the power to the dishwasher.

I wound up on my back first watching how the handle moved and which side seemed to be loose, in my case the right side was moving freely. After first trying to hold the handle in the "down" position with a springhook (to no avail) I wound up biasing the handle to the right (with a screwdriver inserted on the left side of the handle) while moving the handle in the "operate" direction. Suddenly (and without warning) the entire handle assembly moved to the right and created an opening that made it simple to stick a screwdriver up to operate the latch manually.

Four screws later the control panel was out, the offending broken handle assembly was in my hands to discover that they could have easily made the little tabs the hold the handle in place a whole lot sturdier, but let's not go there...

If I had to do the whole thing again it would have taken me less than 5 minutes to open it up I'm sure. Now to simply order the part and install it when it arrives. The best part is we can still run the dishwasher until it gets here!
