I have a Epson Stylus Photo 1280 Ink Jet printer. I'm getting black lines on my prints. I'm using the custom settings and Epson's Ultra Premium matte paper. The problem occurs, regardless of the paper used.

Re: Black lines on prints
Remove the cartridge..... using a cotton bud clean the ink nozzle area on the cartridge for excess ink..take extra care not to damage the nozzles
... while at it take a piece of rag and try to clean the..service station area(this is where the cartridge goes to the side of the printer)for ink build ups....try to clean the rubbers that wipe the ink off the head as it runs across ..this is near the service station area clean well
it just requires cleaning..try to use little bit of cleaning solution that is available for that particular model..if not use bit of alcohol but do not use it on the cartridge itself ..make sure the alcohol is properly dried as not to damage the head

This has two ink cartridges 007 and 009. The black sometimes does not seat and lock in por becomes losse. Sometimes the lock in place tab becomes broken. If using Epson brand they have a chip in them that stops it from printing.sometimes and needs a reset progeram from Epson. best guess the cartrdige is loose.!
HI, If you can click on the "Systems Preferences' and then click on 'Print
and Fax' pane. You can then identify your printer and RIGHT CLICK on
it. choses "reset printer' and it will automatically put the correct
print drivers in and you should be back in business.
the jet is clogged... set the self clean mode on if this does not fix it try another cartridge. if you have been using refilled, recycled cartridges this may have damaged the jets. common fault that recyclers know about but dont give a toss. ink should be filtered 9 times before being injected into cartridge most recyled are filtered once. this causes jets to become blocked, overheat and actually melt
I have been having this problem all day today and believe I resolved it. The photo paper is thicker (I'm using the Ultra Premium Photo Paper by Epson). I have an Epson 1280 photo printer. I opened the lid and moved the lever to adjust for paper thickness, and voila––no more black ink tracks down the one side. Since photo paper is thicker, this may be your problem as well. Check your manual and see if there's an adjustment for things such as printing envelopes and change the setting. Hope this works for you! I wasted about 6 sheets of paper until I thought to adjust for paper thickness. Please let me know!
Epson will not print unless all carts have ink in them to some degree. If the light is on for any reason, printing will be halted.
For future reference, once the color carts have been replaced, you can set the printing defaults to print in either gray scale or BW only. Keep in mind that Epson printers tend to mess up if you don't use the ink at least once a week.
One of the possible reason why you can't print black in white because Epson ink jet printers require all of the ink cartridges to have ink in them in order to print any color, black and white, or grayscale images. More than that Epson printers contain a permanent print head that needs to be charged with all colors to work. Even when users are printing black text only, a small amount of color ink is used to keep the print head charged for color printing and prevent air bubbles from entering the color print nozzles which can damage the print head.
