Question about GE Kitchen Ranges

Open Question

I'm trying to schedule a service call on my new Cafe convection stove, Model #C2S980SEM1SS, Serial #MR206170P, that we bought at Home Depot. (I cannot find the right website or phone number.) We received it 8/25/08 and just used the convection oven. The fan clanks when it starts and stops, then after awhile, it starts clanking continuously. Sounds like it's hitting something as it rotates. Also, we bought a microwave/sensor convection oven, Model# PEB1590SM1SS, Serial# M4900044K from Home Depot, which was delivered at the same time. The oven is built in under the counter as designed by the Home Depot with the assistance of Steve Nacca, their appliance person, store #6687. We used the convection part the other day, and noticed that the butter on the counter above was melting. We felt the counter and it was extremely hot to the touch. We have talked to Steve Nacca and he showed us in his GE Appliance book that it is shown to be built in with a trim kit surround which would not allow for any ventilation. (We haven't installed a trim kit yet, so there is a one to two finger gap surrounding it.) He said he had never heard of one getting hot. He talked with the GE rep yesterday and was told by the rep that he had never heard of the problem, either. Steve said the rep was going to call GE first thing this morning and call him at 10 AM when he came to work. We have heard nothing yet. We don't want to use the convection part for fear of damaging our new cabinets, and for fear of fire. We are also very concerned that should we not be able to use it, we cannot find another microwave that vents to the front and would fit in the space which is 16"Hx24"Wx24"D. All the ones I've seen require a larger cutout. Their is also the fact that we spent about $500 for this unit which we love, but may not be able to use. We hope these problems can be resolved ASAP. Thank you, Oscar Matherly (661) 822-0413

Hi, try this and see if will help you. Most of the Gemini models are the same.

To set Bake:

• 000 will flash in the display.
2. Select the oven temperature. Press the
Autoset 0 pad for 350° F or the appropriate

the temperature by 25 degrees.

Most appliance parts houses have a t-shaped long trim piece made out of plastic or metal that is designed to be cut to fit into this space. Try Reliable Parts at 1-800-666-0313 Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

SOURCE: Recently purchased a GE microwave

Yes it should have a trim because the gas stove does have a higher heat range and the heat will raise straight above the stove warmer and higher than electric. This heat could burn out capacitors, resistors, and more in your microwave if there is no trim.

We just bought a house that has an oven - Maytag Model #MER5765RAB and it broils but will not bake. I am scared to try the self cleaning part.

If your stove is new, and you know where it was purchased, you may have a warranty claim. I only offer this up as this model is still being sold, so it might be worth pursuing....
The element used for baking is probably to blame. The fix isn't too hard. Isolate the stove electrically by tripping the circuit breaker, usually located at the electrical meter panel box outside. Make certain that the stove, oven and clock are dead as a hammer. You don't want to get shocked. Remove the element. If you have an electrical meter and know how to use it, you can test the continuity of the element to determine if it's bad. Get the make and model of your oven, and purchase a new element from an appliance supply house. Take the old one with you. (They can test it there for you). Installation is the reverse of the removal.
Your model is still available at home hardware retailers like Lowe's, and they may have replacement elements for your model there or at H/Depot, etc... the price generally runs in the $30-$40 range. I prefer the appliance parts supply stores as they carry exact replacements, and are more likely to have it in stock.
Here's hoping that this helped you..Regards, W/D

Ge spectra gas stove top not lighting

If your top burners are not lighting or will not work, it is possible that the burners have become dirty or wet. Please follow the troubleshooting directions below before calling service:
  1. Turn you burner to the Lite position:

If you hear clicking or sparking, go to Step 2.

If you do not, check your circuit breakers. If the circuit breaker is ok, we recommend that you schedule service by calling 1-800-432-2737 or schedule service online.

  2. Clean the burner and electrode:

First remove the burner grate, cap, and head. Use a needle or paper clip to poke through the holes on the burner head. Re-assemble and try the burner.

Remove the burner grate, cap, and head. Even if it looks clean, wipe the tip of the electrode with a clean, dry paper towel and PRESS IT DOWN. Re-assemble and try the burner, again.

Check to see if the burner works, If not, then go to Step 3.

  3. Re-assemble - Make sure that each burner top matches its burner bottom. The burner top will lay flat if put on correctly.

Check to see if the burner works, If not, then go to Step 4.

  4. The spark igniter is operating properly, but the burner is still not lighting. At this point, we would recommend that you schedule service by calling 1-800-432-2737 or schedule service online.

Heat and moisture (steam) kills the electronics in any control. but if the mark are on a circuit then there was a short in a circuit. I would check the series if your stove( first two numbers in the serial number)if it is a early series. for sure that they have make improvements in the control. And a Replacement controls will have all the improvement and revisions. good luck and let me know what you do..kraztech
