Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
Main switch in back will cause red light to come on, however pushing or holding front start panel icon only allows the system to engage for a few seconds then the green light changes back to flashing red.
Hard drive, Remove the small panel on the side that says hddemove the small blue screw, pull out by hinged c-clip and reinsert, it sometimes becomes loose, if this does not solve the problem, go to your local electronics store, fry's, best buy, etc and get just about any SATA 2.5" 5400 or 7200rpm laptop hard drive, Western Digital are the best. Take it home, remove the hard drive as desribed above only also remove the four small screws as well, swap the hard drives, reinstall. When you turn it back on it will ask you to format the hard drive, select yes, if it does not go to this screen on its own you can forcibly get it there by plugging in a controller and pressing the ps button so that it syncs and hold select and start for 5 seconds, a screen will appear to reformat the hard drive. This is your problem, good luck, it may sound hard, but I literally showed my five year old do it and she helps me all the time.

Does the lights blink red? If so, You
have the infamous YLOD, aka. Yellow Light of Death. This is the
number 1 cause of pS3's dying. It is an overheating issue linked to
your CPU and GPU (the processor chips) You will need to find a local
PS3 repair shop who can repair this. Do not try to attempt repairs
seen on the internet yourself as some would suggest. You could make
things much worse and render the unit totally unresponsive. The
repair process takes about 3 hours.
IT CAN BE FIXED*
IS THERE A DISC STUCK INSIDE?
If you have a unit that is not
backwards compatible, any non 60g or 80g then you can retrieve your
Power off the unit using the toggle
switch on the back. Hold down the 'eject' button and turn the toggle
switch back from off to on. This will run a fan test and eject your
disc. Remember, this will only work on the 20, 40g models. Not the
backwards compatible units with the 4 usb port holes and the memory
You will have to have the system repaired so that you can eject the disc the normal way. If the technician cannot repair your system, simply ask him to remove your disc.
