Gateway mt3418 will not power back on

I have as gateway mt3418 laptop and was working like I normally do and all of a sudden it powered off and will not boot back on. I took back to Best buy and the geeksquad informed me that it may be the hardrive or processor board, and said that it ws not worth fixing. Please help me.

I have a similar problem with an MT3418. The computer will not even go to the BIOS. I replaced the CMOS battery (it's located under the touch pad). Still no luck. I tried booting up off of a DVD with the BIOS flash utility, still no luck. The screen looks dead.

It really looked like a CMOS battery problem. Occasionally it wouldn't boot the BIOS and then would come up with the wrong date.

Best Buy is not one of my favorites - very bad customer service.

    Hi!

Looks like we all have the same problem. But it came up exactley after the warranty expired. Screen went dead and not possible to restart anymore. Hard disc, CD drive, ventilator is on but no display :-( ******* cheap gateway ****. At least if I knew it was dropped or something but no. I took good care of it.

New motherboard would cost like a new laptop.

It won't turn on

Check this
If you remove the battery, disconnect the power cord, let the PC sit 5 mins, then hold down the power button for about 30 seconds. THEN, reconnect the power cord (battery still out of laptop), it will probably start up properly. Put the battery back in after the startup.
I don't know why or what this indicates, but it works 90% of the time.
I've read that resynching the battery will help, but I see no better sucess rate after trying that.
Ciao Y'all,
Bob

My Gateway mt3418 has dead video card what is solution?

Typically, installing a video card will have to be done by the manufacturer. Finding this type of part, especially from Gateway, will be very difficult. Installing the part will be even harder.

Getting this fixed may be more than the actual laptop is worth.

Contact Gateway for pricing.

Computer wont power on although both lights come on and battery is charged

1. Take the battery out of the laptop & try to turn on the laptop using power adapter only.
2. Make sure the power adapter is not defective. Test the output voltage of the power adapter using a voltmeter. Compare the voltmeter reading to the nominal value written on the adapter or the laptop.
3. If you have another processor which is compatible with your laptop's model, try swapping processors & test to see if the laptop will work.
4. The power button could be bad

How to take apart gateway laptop mt3418

There is no good way to tell you except with a video.
Get a few pieces of Styrofoam to put the screws into. One for the bottom, one for the top, one for misc.

  • Flip the laptop upside down. Remove all the screws, and batteries, doors etc.
  • Flip the laptop right side up and open the screen open completely
  • Remove the power button/hinge panel (snaps off with a screw driver)
  • Unscrew the keyboard 3-5 screws and it removes
Notice how all ribbon cables disconnect.
  • Unscrew the hinges from the bottom portion and disconnect the cables careful to notice the routing.
  • The upper part of of the case separates from the lower using a knife or small screwdriver. Watch remaining screws
That is about it. Put back together asap. Order the parts you need BEFORE you dis-assemble.

Gateway 3418 wont boot - no video

Sounds like the charger board has a short or the ac adapter is malfunctioning. The battery itself may be the cause but not likely.
