I have as gateway mt3418 laptop and was working like I normally do and all of a sudden it powered off and will not boot back on. I took back to Best buy and the geeksquad informed me that it may be the hardrive or processor board, and said that it ws not worth fixing.Please help me.

Check this If you remove the battery, disconnect the power cord, let the PC sit 5 mins, then hold down the power button for about 30 seconds. THEN, reconnect the power cord (battery still out of laptop), it will probably start up properly. Put the battery back in after the startup. I don't know why or what this indicates, but it works 90% of the time. I've read that resynching the battery will help, but I see no better sucess rate after trying that. Ciao Y'all, Bob
1. Take the battery out of the laptop & try to turn on the laptop using power adapter only. 2.
Make sure the power adapter is not defective. Test the output voltage
of the power adapter using a voltmeter. Compare the voltmeter reading to
the nominal value written on the adapter or the laptop. 3. If you
have another processor which is compatible with your laptop's model, try
swapping processors & test to see if the laptop will work. 4. The power button could be bad
