Printer Canon i690. After extensive cleaning... On a nozzle check "M", "PC", "PM" and the top half of "BK" are normal and clear. The bottom half of "BK". "C", and "Y" do not print. I have ordered a new print head but since the heads are either 100% on or 100% off I am beginning to wonder if it is an electrical (contact or cable) problem.

Printer Canon i960 After extensive cleaning.

On a nozzle check M, PC, PM and the top half of BK are normal and clear. The bottom half of BK, C and Y do not print. I have ordered a new print head but since the heads are either 100% on or 100% off I am beginning to wonder if it is an electrical (contact or cable) problem.

The print head has been EXTENSIVELY cleaned and the operating heads work perfectly. Unfortunately only 60% of the heads work

  • ConnellIII Nov 11, 2008

A hard reboot did not help. I am begining to think the problem is electrical. I will wait until the new print head arrives. It is possible the electrical problem is in the print head. If the problem isn't solved with a new print head it's the shop.

    Thanks for the help.

This is a common problem in this printers as replacing the head mostly solves the problem.as you stated that printer is still working properly with the old head its not the printers head cable or circuit fault. the printer is perfect the head is not supporting the printer to print.

Try a hard reset first (this usually resolves most issues) - Unplug printer for a minute from power source and PC and then reconnect and see.

If the issue persists, it is more likely something to do (as you suggested), with the cable connector or some contacts within. Cheapest would be to try a new cable connector first, and if the problem still persists, then I would recommend calling in the service guy..

Its definately the problem of the head.as it is blocked due to ink clogged in the holes.

also before inserting the new head please clean the lower area of the printer where the ink is collected sometimes the head becomes wet due to extra ink touched to its base and gets short circuit failure.and it stops working.

  • mmechanics Nov 11, 2008

the printer is absolutely all right its the problem of blocked head which is not able to printproperly.
    thanks.

  • mmechanics Nov 11, 2008

replacing the head is much advisable as it will definately solve your problem.
    feel free for further assistance.
    thanks.

Printer has worked perfectly since purchased, suddenly started printing only the black portions of a photo. Did a nozzle check which confirmed only black cartridge functioning. Deep cleaned all heads....

The print head is still probably still partially blocked. Cleaning/deep cleaning tries to clear the head by flushing ink through, doesn't always work but does use up your ink.

You can get print head cleaning kits, PC shops, ebay etc. Try one of those.

Here's a really useful ebay url. with some youtube links, if you run the second video down you should get a pretty good idea.

Here's a direct link :- http://www.printheadhospital.co.uk/quickshop/

You don't have to buy this one, there may be cheaper, have a shop around.

The yellow cartridge shows a "?" when needs to

Hi,

According to your problem, first clear the cartridge head. Go to the Printer properties and clean the head. Check the nozzles and align the cartridges from same place. Clean the cartridge head 2-4 times. If it doesn't solve your problem then replace the cartridge.

The auto print head alignment prints ok. The Nozzle check from top to bottom prints as follows: 3eBK ok; 6C top half light blue - bottom half darker blue; 6C ok; 6M top half light pink - bottom half darker...

It sounds like your black (K) or Black/Yellow (KY) head needs to be replaced.
The problem appears to be in the top half of the black head.
Without knowing more (like what make/model the printer is) I can't help more than that.
