Nevermind, we figured it out! Whoever lived in the house before us apparently had to replace the bottom rack, and failed to purchase one that was made for this particular dishwasher. The rack was positioned so that it would not allow the door to open during the cycle. STUPID! But at least I, the woman, figured out the problem. Bazinga!

The little white balls are check valves - you need them.

Have you checked the discharge check valve under the dishwasher where the discharge line connects to the sink? It is under the unit and can be unscrewed (carefully). The valve can be disassembled with a couple of pronged keepers. This check valve can become obstructed and cause the problem you decscribe.

The soap dispenser at times does not open during the wash cycle. When the cycle is complete and the front door is opened the soap dispenser is either stil closed or at time is open with the soap still...

Check the way you're loading your dishwasher. Sometimes large plates or baking pans can block the door of the dispenser. The latch unlocks but because the door is blocked, the detergent can't get out. Once you open the main door, the dispenser door may pop open and looks as if it has been in the fully opened position when it was actually held in place by that large utensil!Cutting boards are major blockers as well.

The soap door does not open during the wash cycle

Hi

Dishwashers use Bi-Metal strip to allow the dispenser to open/close. This strip when heat up causes the soap door spring to open up the dispenser. If this strip is not heated doesn't allow the door to open. The strip may not be getting 120V or maybe disconnected. Newer (plastic liner) dishwashers use a wax motor to open the soap dispenser. The plunger inside the wax motor slowly moves and pushes the plunger and door open. And, if this wax motor doesn't receive 120 volts, then it'll not work. Please check the voltage to the wax motor/Bi-metal strip; also inspect the connections to these.

Hope this helps...

Water leaks from door during last cycle

Sometimes residue builds up between the gasket ( rubber on the back of the door ) and the unit itself. With the door open clean the inside of the washer where the door touches it when closed, clean the gasket too.

When dishwashers aren't run frequently the gaskets can dryout and shrink, this creates a gap in the gasket and allows it to leak. New gaskets are available from your dishwasher manufacturer.

The soap compartment will not open during the wash cycle.

Hi

Dishwashers use Bi-Metal strip to allow the dispenser to open/close. This strip when heat up causes the soap door spring to open up the dispenser. If this strip is not heated doesn’t allow the door to open. The strip may not be getting 120V or maybe disconnected. Newer (plastic liner) Maytag dishwashers use a wax motor to open the soap dispenser. The plunger inside the wax motor slowly moves and pushes the plunger and door open. And, if this wax motor doesn’t receive 120 volts, then it’ll not work. Please check the voltage to the wax motor/Bi-metal strip, also inspect the connections to these.
Please revert for any further assistance.

The soap isn't coming out of the soap dispenser during the wash cycle. when i open the dishwasher door the dispenser opens with all of its contents still sitting there!

I had the same problem once. Make sure nothing is stacked in front of the soap dispenser when you close the door. Slowly close the door and follow the soap dispenser to make sure it has enough clearance to open.
Let me know how it goes.

The soap dispenser opens but the soap is not dispensed and the dishes do not get cleaned. Can you help?

Make sure that there is nothing blocking the soap door from opening fully when the dishwasher is shut. This happened to me and I also thought that the soap door was opening during the cycle when it actually only partially opened during the wash and then popped open fully when I opened the dishwasher at the end of the cycle. So some, but not all, of the soap was used.

Before taking anything to bits, check you aren't just loading the machine in such a way that something (for us, it's usually a frying pan) is stopping the soap dispenser from springing open all the way. A.
