Question about SanDisk Sansa View 8GB MP3 Player - Black

My computer doesnt recognize the Player (Code 10) error

The computer recognizes an "mtp device" but when i try to install it using "add new hardware" it comes up with a "code 10" error. I didnt receive any software with it, but its supposed to be able to be recognized by the computer anyways right?

It should install try connecting it to another computer if it does it again try this:

1. turn on mp3

2. put it into hold :a lock should appearon the middle of the mp3's screen:

3. press the back button on the mp3 for about 10 seconds the screen should blink then connect it to your computer


i did this in mine and my computer recognized

Why is my smpk4083 mp3 player not being detected by my computer when I connect it?

This may be caused by one of the following:
1. Minimum system requirements were not met.
2. Corrupted drivers.
3. Computer restrictions.

To resolve this issue, try the following solutions:

For Windows XP users: verify the following operating system requirements are met.

SOLUTION 2 - Refresh the driver

STEP 1 - Connect the smpk4083 mp3 player to the PC
The screen on your player should turn on, show 'Connected' and indicate the battery charging or full.
- If the player does not turn on try other USB ports or on another computer if one is readily available. Ensure you are connecting directly to the computer USB port and not to a USB hub.
- If there is nothing showing on the screen and the player does show up in as a storage device in an explorer window, then the screen is just not working.

If you receive the error "USB Device Not Recognized" on the computer, the player is most likely failed. Additional troubleshooting is unlikely to correct the problem.

STEP 2 - Check under Device Manager
1. Right-click My Computer, and select Manage.

NOTE: smpk4083 mp3 Players can connect to your computer in MSC or MTP mode. Exceptions are smpk4083 mp3 player Connect and smpk4083 mp3 Express which only use MTP mode. MTP mode is the recommended and default method for smpk4083 mp3 Players when used with Windows OS.

The smpk4083 mp3 player will show up on Device Manager's right pane as:
1. USB Mass Storage device (if the player is set to MSC)
2. Portable Device (if the player is set to MTP mode)

If there is a yellow exclamation point (!) or question mark (?) beside the device, try to refresh the drivers.


STEP 3 - Refresh the drivers
1. Right-click the entry with the error mark, select Uninstall.
2. On the top menu, click Action then select Scan for hardware changes.

NOTE: If a device with yellow exclamation point (!) continually appears and disappears, then the player is most likely failed. Additional troubleshooting is unlikely to correct the problem.

First thing to do is:
Try otherUSB ports on your computer. A USB port on the back of a PC usually has better poweroutput.
Try adifferent cable if there's one available, to rule out if you have a bad cable.
Tryanother computer.
If none of the above works:
Then-Check and refresh the drivers in Windows, for a Portable Device.
1 -Connect your player to the PC
2 -Check under Device Manager
-> 1.Right-click My Computer, and select Manage.
NOTE: The player should show up on the Device Manager's right pane as:
1. USB Mass Storage device (if the player is set to MSC)
2.Portable Device (if the player is set to MTP mode.)

If thereis a yellow exclamation point (!) or question mark (?) beside the device, tryto refresh the drivers.
Then -Refresh the drivers
1.Right-click the entry with the error mark, select Uninstall.

If your BRAND NEW player is NOT recognized by the computer when plugged in:
This may becaused by one of the following:
1.Minimum system requirements were not met.
2.Corrupted drivers.
3.Computer restrictions, Vista or 7 authorizations.
4. Powerissue, plug your player into the back of the computer.

Next be sure you are using WindowsMedia player :
Version10 or 11
Downloadand install the latest Windows Media Player if it's not installed.

If all this has failed - Refresh the drivers again.

If allthat does not work - Manually add the hardware driver.
1. Connect the Sansa player in MTP mode
2. Manually install the device driver through Windows device manager in control panel. Install the Device as a Portable Device.

I have just bought a new sansa clip. i have successfully uploaded music to the the player and i can hear it well. now when i try to access the player through the computer i cannot access the music and...

Cannot be reconized by computer, ie states no device connected


Try other USB ports on your computer. A USB port behind a PC usually has the most power output. Try a different cable if there's one available, to rule out a cable malfunction. Try another computer.  NEXT - Refresh the drivers STEP 1 - Connect the Sansa player to the PC STEP 2 - Check under Device Manager -> 1. Right-click My Computer, and select Manage. NOTE: The Sansa player will show up on Device Manager's right pane as: 1. USB Mass Storage device (if the player is set to MSC) 2. Portable Device (if the player is set to MTP mode.)

Click Next to begin the Add Hardware Wizard. 3. Click Yes, I have already connected the hardware, then Next. 4. Scroll to the end of the list and select Add a new hardware device then click Next 5. Select Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced) then click Next 6. Select Portable Device or Windows Media Device from the list, then click Next 7. Select MTP device, then click Next. 8. Click Next to start loading the drivers. 9. Click Finish to close the wizard.
STEP 3 - Verify if the device is detected properly 1. Double-click My Computer. 2. Check if the device is showing up under Portable devices. SOLUTION 6 - Set user restrictions.
Some computers have user right restrictions that are set to disable access to new hardware. STEP 1 - Log-in as an Administrator STEP 2 - Edit restriction NOTE: Disconnect the Sansa player if connected. 1. Click Start then Run, 2. Type cmd, then the press Enter. 3. After the prompt, type Net localgroup Administrators local service /add then press Enter.
STEP 3 - Reconnect your device

My rca m4204 can not turn on


Go to control panel
then add hardware
connect your hardware device and click "yes i have connected the hardware"
After that scroll down and select install new hardware device
select install hardware that i manually select from a list
scroll down to windows portable devices
and choose MTP device

Samsung yp-s3 won't install hardware


Unlike my other MP3 player, the S3 by default is not recognized as a stanrdard USB device. The S3 is an MTP device. MTP is Microsoft's protocol for communicating with the S3.
Window's Media Player 10 or higher will recognize the S3.
Vista will automatically recognize the S3 as well.

There is a firmware upgrade you can try to make the S3 be seen as standard USB device (UMS Mode).

Zen vision m not recognized


Same problem. Solved by downgrading Windows Media Player to v.10. Do it through Control Panel and click Remove WMP11 and WMP11 runtime. Restart, connect your player and if not recognized do go to Control Panel=>System=>Hardware tab=>Devices. Find Portable Devices drivers in the menu and click Uninstall MTP device. If still not detected, go to Control Panel=>Detect New Hardware and run that. The player should connect automatically. WMP 11 has a glitch that disallows 3rd party MTP players. Intentional or purposeful? Ask B. Gates.

Try to add the device manually.

Plug the player in while it’s set to "MTP" mode. (This selection is in the Settings area)

On your computer, open Device Manager, and select: Add Hardware.

Choose the "already connected the hardware" option.

From list, choose "Add a new hardware device".

Select: "Install the hardware that I manually select from a list."

Select: Portable Devices, then MTP device.
