Why does my Gold Medal Waffle Cone Iron trip GFI outlet when I switch on?

because the iron draws too much power for the GFI. Plug it into a regular socket instead.

Plug gets hot on my vintage sunbeam CG waffle maker

You can replace the power cord on these models easy enough, as the cord is actually attached to a small black, plastic box that can be opened to replace the cord. You can find cords at home improvement or hardware stores. Before going this route, make sure the wall outlet you are plugging the waffle iron into, is properly grounded. You can check this by using a small outlet testing tool that lights up green or orange if installed properly or improperly. It also checks for reverse polarity, in addition to bad ground.

Why does the waffle stick to the maker and how do you clean it???

Waffle pans are seasoned through usage. If you clean the pans too well, they won't work right. It's a bit like cooking with a cast iron skillet. If you wash it with soap and water, you strip the oils off of it, and it will rust.
Use some Pam or similar product when you get ready to make your waffles. Spray the lower pan, add your batter, and then spray the upper pan. Close the waffle maker up quickly after spraying the upper pan.
To clean off old material, it's easiest to scrape it off with a nylon scraper, taking care not to score the metal. A bit of the cooking spray will help on the most stubborn baked on material.
I personally prefer to use the batter that requires the addition of cooking oil, and I still spray the pans as well. This leaves me with a seasoned waffle making machine.
When you've finished with the waffle machine, wipe down the outer surfaces with warm soapy water, followed by clean water. Clean the pans the least you can. Usually, if the waffles are leaving little to no residue, we just wipe the pans clean with a paper towel, and then put it away.
By the way, the first waffle in any given batch seems to never be as good as the ones that follow. We call this one the "sacrificial waffle" and move on. Our dogs appreciate it!
Best regards. Hope that you found this somewhat helpful. --W/D--

I have a kalorik heart shaped waffle maker and on the first use, after the first waffle, the waffle iron stopped working. i was wondering if there was something i could do to reset it or if i should just...

Check the outlet that it was plugged into. If you used it in a kitchen it may have been plugged into a GFI outlet (Ground Fault Interrupter). If the safety device in the outlet failed, or there was more than one heating type appliance used on the outlet or a standard wall outlet. Then you may have simply triggered the circuit breaker that addresses this device. For example, If you had the coffee maker on, or the toaster, or the microwave oven on. Using an additional appliance would pop the breaker.
Here are the possible solutions. TRY your waffle maker in another outlet. If it was plugged into a GFI wall outlet, then find the "reset button" on the outlet and push it. If it clicks, it means that it had tripped. NOW HERE IS AN IMPORTANT POINT TO FOLLOW. If you reset the GFI and plug in the Waffle Maker, then turn it on and the outlet pops off. there is a wiring defect in the waffle Iron.
If you don't have a GFI and you plug the waffle iron into a standard outlet and turn it on and it trips the breaker, then same thing. A defect in the Waffle Iron. Now if you plug the waffle iron into a good circuit and it works again. Then it was a matter of the outlet being overloaded by too many small appliances.
Very common problem. Not serious. Just reset the breaker. Or if it's a fuse, replace it.
Hope this helps,
Best, Mark

Need to know how to clean the waffle cooking plates. Do they come out?

They do not come out you - before cooking you need to spray with non stick cooking spray - after cooking you clean with soap and spong on counter DO not submerse into the water - keep the plug away from water - wipe clean with damp cloth

I just bought one

Typically the wire bends often and severely at the plug (i.e. when using storing, etc.) Every time it bends, there is a chance that the small copper strands in the wire break. The more strands that break, the smaller the wire effectively is. When electricity passes through a wire with a lot of resistance (such as the now-smaller wire right at the plug), it gets hot.
Bottom line: replace the cord before it starts a fire. Failing that, you might be able to cut off the bad section of cord and install a new plug where the cord is still good.

I need instructions for a waffle maker mine are lost

When making a waffle have your batter made plug in your maker and get it started heating if there is a light it will go off whenit is hot enough if not wait aprox 2-3 minutes at the most 5 then spay or brush the inside of the plates with a nonstick cooking spray or brush with butter then pour your batter in the center of the bottom plate and close the lid it should start steaming right away watch the steam it is a never fail indicater of how done your waffle is the less steam the more done your waffle is, there is a lot of trial and error with waffle makers, you should spay or brush between each waffle or they will stick. Let me know how it all cooks out. goofballlovers

Seasoning Waffle Baker and Grill

FIrst, make sure there is some kind of fat or oil in the waffle batter recipe. This is the biggest difference between waffle and pancake batter. Go to Sams or a restaurant supply store and get a spray product like waffle-off. Spray lightly aftter every few waffles. Use lightly as heavy spray can cause build up. If you can't find this product use one of the PAM type sprays for BBQ grills or maybe an olive oil based product. Regular Pam sprays build up faster as they are not really designed for this. Don't try to wash the grids between uses as they need to keep the oil coating. (Like using a cast iron skillet) They will turn a dark brown. Just brush off crumbs or use a damp rag. Make sure the waffles are completely cooked as when not completely cooked they will seperate and be very difficult to remove. They are cooked when the steam stops coming from the sides. This will take 3 - 6 minutes. Don't preheat with the iron open or allow it to stand open for any longer than necessary. (It can overheat)

Waffle maker keeps popping the breaker panel.

Sorry but it sounds like your waffle maker is toast. It may have shorted in the plug. If you haven't already done so, take it back or contact the maker for a warranty repair.
