Solid vertical line on JVC 42WV74

We have had a recurring problem with out JVC for a while now. Sometimes, about 2/3 on the right side of the screen, a solid line appears from the very top of the set, and runs all the way to the bottom. It is about 2 inches in width. It changes colors, from a rainbow assortment, to then sometimes becoming solid black. Many days we can go hours without ever having the line appear. Then it will come up, and it can appear on whether a show is live, taped on tivo, or even when a DVD is played back. It will stay on the set, sometimes for only a couple of minutes, and sometimes for an hour or more. It always changes color unless it goes solid black. There is no way to figure out what causes it to come on or leave. Not sure if it is the tuner box, the actual plasma, or one of the cable connections. My system is cable, with a DVR cable box, and a separate DVD player. That's it. I can post a picture, or send one by email, of the actual line on the tv screen THANKS in advance for any advice on this - by the way, we did have this 'fixed' under warranty by a local authorized repair shop, and for a while when returned, it seemed ok. Of course, it returned only after the warranty was over, and JVC won't help now.

I have the same problem as well. Has anyone figured out what the problem is or how to fix it?

I have also developed new problem as well. On channel 3, and 7 there is no sound at all and on channel 2 there is not sound unless you turn the volume way up but the sound is from some other channel.

I was actually able to get sound for a few minutes today on channel 7, except during the show it was spanish and during the commericals it was english.

    any ideas?

    thanks

I've had this issue fixed. Unforunately it has occured in 3 other places since I first purchased the system. Here is the problem, the color/out is controlled in approximate 2 inch width (vertical) by circuit boards. When a circuit board goes bad, it either displays color stripes or sometimes a solid black stripe.

In any event, you would need to have the circuit board replaced. I do not know the cost as I have an extended warrently, however this is still extremely frustrating to have my tv go out for repair annually!

Hi Paul,
I am sorry. There is nothing you can do about it. It appears to be a defective panel.

Panasonic TH-50PX70EA HAS A HALF SCREEN PERFECT BUT OTHER HALF IS LINED AND CHANGES COLOUR AND SOMETIMES GOES BLACK GETS CLOSE TO PERFECT THEN GOES LINED AGAIN PS sorry for caps

If its a Plasma it uses sustain or t con boards--sustain will usually be two--one for left side and one for right.

Only boards are sold for these sets--no individual parts--discover which board drives the right side and replace it while crossing your fingers--either it fixed the problem or you have a bad display panel (entire screen unit which is fatal from a cost point of view).

Hello
Check its power supply board for any damaged capacitors. Replace them if found or suspected. Take special care to main filter capacitors. check all the output voltage smoothing capaciotrs too.
If all are OK, and still the problem perists, replace the power supply board as card basis.

Vertical line down the screen about 2 inches thick

Hello,

IF YOU HAVE A SOLID BLACK LINE RUNNING VERTICALLY THEN YOU HAVE A FAULTY MATRIX INVERTER. IF CENTRAL THE MAIN VERTICAL INVERTER NEEDS CHANGED. LEFT = LEFT VERTICAL INVERTER RIGHT=RIGHT.........

ANOTHER WAY TO GET THIS FAULT IS WORN OR DAMAGED RIBBON/PLASTIC GOING FROM THE SCREEN MATRIX TO THE INVERTER

HOPING THIS WILL HELP TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM....

JVC PD-42WV74 Plasma will not power on ?

I believe that this monitor will not work unless you have the cable from the media center to the monitor hooked up, I have all the parts from one of these due to the screen being defective on one of my customer's TV like yours. I have the connection cable that I could sell for $ 20. + Priority shipping of $5.65

Note
In some cases, there are minor defects in some parts of the screen. Points that do not light, points with
brightness different from that of the periphery, or points with color different from that of the periphery.
Some pixels will always be on or always off. Please note that this is not a malfunction. So what this says is that it's not the Plasma Cell problem, its more like a bad board inside. You will need more info like schematic and find out which area the bad part is in.
